Hi All,

I'm looking for some advice here regarding a stag in Clonakilty. I've heard a lot about the place thats positive, good craic etc, but one or two people have expressed some concerns. The main concerns are that we may not be allowing into the majority of pubs. We're basically a quiet bunch of lads around the 30 mark that are looking for a few pints and a laugh together. Strippers and dressing up in themed costumes and such wouldn't be our scene really.

Has anybody out there any feedback about Clonakilty to help ease our minds or confirm the lads doubts? Any experiences or recommendations would be apprieciated also.

    Cheers

I'm a regular visitor to Clonakilty and always stay in the Quality Hotel. Nice comfortable place with a leisure centre to unwind after an assualt on the drink.:D

As for the town itself. Well its a lovely spot that has become very popular with Stag and Hen parties looking to get away from the likes of Galway. There were recent problems with Hen/Stag parties and I know the local council were doing the usual anti fun moaning and groaning. For a while some bars and restaurants had a ban, but from what Ive seen lately, its all systems go as businesses need the money badly.

A great spot for a stag. Hope it works out.

Nice town. Was at a stag there a few years back, we ended up deBarras as I recall. They sold us a bottle of Black Bush at the end of the night (and didn't screw us on the price either) and it gets hazy after that. Driving around West Cork in a stretch Limo was interesting though :)

A lad at work went on his to Clon recently and said it was great. I was there not on a stag but a weekend away with a good few people and had a great time too. deBarras is a top spot for beer and an sugan for food. Check out "rebel adventures" while there for something to do during the day as the model railway village isn't quite as exciting as it sounds.

Thanks for the info guys. I'm reassured. There is alway that fear when your on a stag that your not going to be let in to places even tho you may not be up to anything. I've heard a number of good reports about debarra's. Is the rest of the town as good? I've only passed through the place once or twice. Might be worth a test drive some night

Its geared for tourists so its set up to be a great little town. Don't take a test night. Take a Stag rehearsal weekend.:D

I was out with friends there and we noticed that most of the pubs had signs saying no stags and hens on the door. Appeared to be quite strictly enforced too.

Anyone know if its just the fancy dress they have a problem with or if its just the big groups turning up all at once? I'd be happy enough not to dress up (my friends have been warned!!!), really not into that hen fake boob L plate willy cr@p. But if its the groups then that will be a bit rubbish.

Are there late bars / nite clubs there where you can go for a boogie? And do they stop groups coming in too?

Offalyman i've heard of westcorkstags.com, its accommodation in inchnodoney which is very near clon. They organise surfing and other activities as well. someone getting married here at work mentioned they are doing some promotion on a new website called ibuyweddings.ie. might be worth a look to get ideas!

I was there two years ago for a stag weekend, and I can't remember a thing about it, apart from the journey down and up :)
