Humax Foxsat channels

    Hi,

Looking for advice, have a Humax Foxsat Freesat unit connected to an old Sky minidish, (single LNB connected to box with a looped cable to 2nd lnb connector) now recently I have "lost" some channels - like BBC2, Channel 5, BBC3, BBC4 etc. Have done factory reset, checked connectors - both ends at back of box and at dish are ok... Am gettin "no or bad signal" was getting bad pixelization. They were coming in loud and clear before... The signal strength is fine but no quality strength at all now?? The Diagnostics screen shows Signal strength at 80 -> 90% and quality at 80%. Other channels are fine...

I noticed a crack in the LNB weather cover cap, might this be the issue, if so is it easy enough to replace myself? I'd look for a dual / quad LNB specfically for the oval shapped dish, and run the extra cable as well, any gotchas or should I get a pro to do it? Thanks

Bad cable, bad lnb or slight dish mis alignment.
    It's most likely the dish.
There should have been a new quad lnb with the foxsat box,do you still have it?
You could try putting that on and perhaps go to your local electrical outlet and get some new sat cable.
After all you may aswell have the foxsat working properly with the 2 feeds anyway-so throw away the old cable and put in the 2 new feeds.

If you are not good at this, then just ask a local installer.

    Thanks Black Briar,

Just for my education, if the other channels (BBC1, ITV, Channel 4, BBC HD etc) are coming in fine, does that not rule out cable and dish alignment, so back to lnb? I got my Humax from Maplins Uk, no Llnb was shipped :(

Looking at it, doesn't seem to be a big deal, remove old lnb, and run two sat cables in, attach F connectors and away you go?? Or am I missing somthing?

no lnb is supplied with the humax; they are cheaply available on ebay.

did you check both the manual signal strength and the freesat signal strength? It could be the lnb skew, twist it so that the bottom points to about 7 O'Clock.

    Hi kuro_man,
did you check both the manual signal strength and the freesat signal strength?
Not sure what you mean or how to check? The individual channels in question BBC2, Channel 5, BBC3, BBC4 etc have zero quality signal, but signal strength is fine, but the diag screen on humax shows general strength at 85-90% and quality at 80%
twist it so that the bottom points to about 7 O'Clock
Do you twist the round bit of the lnb, any links to a pic on how it should look? Or are you saying the arm should be coming out to look at 7 o'clock while facing the dish?

    Thanks again...

humax hdr has two installation screens: manual (non-freesat) and freesat. The freesat one asks for a postcode. Both have strength/signal meters (from different transponders.) and you should align your dish to both.

Bottom of lnb (where cable is connected) should point to 7 O'Clock approx. as you face the dish. Arm should not be moved.

Could still be dish alignment as some transponders come in stronger than others...

Just for info, I replaced the lnb with a quad one, and ran a extra cable in, and bingo, 100% strength and 100% quality and all channels came back. I did notice (as mentioned in previous post) that there was a crack in the old lnb, in the white weather shield, and there was water within the unit.. So just in case anyone else comes across this problem.. Thanks for advice..
