FAS have a job listed which says:
    Chauffeur - B Licence

You will be required to drive to various location throughout the country 5 night per week. Previous similar driving experience is essential. Applicants must be fluent in English and hold a full clean driving licence. Excellent wages.

    Job Reference: JB510551

    No. of Jobs: 1
Contract type: Permanent / Part Time
    Days per week: 4/5
    Hours per week: 35-40
    Daily Hours: 8
    Start date: To be advised

    Experience Required: Fully Experienced.
Transport :Transport is required for this position
    Salary: 150.00 per night Euro
    Location : Galway City
Now, this is driving a private car (B-licence), five nights a week, to various locations. I'm thinking that it can't be driving for a disqualified musician or disabled person (how many guarantee gigs 5 nights/week). It can't be freight (would need more than a private car). In fact, the only thing I can think of is delivering illegal substances!

Or maybe I'm overly suspicious. ('Tis on the FAS site, after all, surely they screen things ...)

    What do you think?

NB Personally, I'm car-free so won't be applying. But am rather curious.

Only thing coming to mind would be fast food delivery and with tip I could possibly see the 150 a night being reached.

Transporting blood between hospitals? And patients from day care centres to medical centres.
    It frees up ambulances.

Probably isn't, it's was just my first reaction

It could be working for the mayor :p

FAS is a joke. Tbh it just like the rest of the recruitment agency websites out there. I have applied for so many jobs that I have seen on their website and never heard anything all back.

Actually in my family we got three jobs through FAS and the interview ratio was also much better for FAS than other websites despite sending more applies to the likes of Jobs.ie etc than FAS - it lists mostly low level manual jobs so it's a longer while before you see something interesting.

Any you've heard back from employers you've applied to directly? I certainly haven't.

The state of HR practice isn't flash here at the moment, I agree. But I've not been around long enough to know if it's due to the recession or if they were always that bad.

FAS ads are actually direct ads (99% - some agencies used to sneak in but not anymore I think), they list e-mail addresses and names in the company you need to apply to, there is no automated application process. In other words it's like a direct application.

I agree that no matter if you apply directly or indirectly there's slim chance you'll get any reply at all unless you're selected for an interview. People slate recruiters for this but the companies are just as bad - I helped my sister apply for jobs during the last couple of months and she applied direct only. No replies at all, even courtesy templates, unless they wanted to talk to her in which case she would normally hear from them within two days.

I have to agree that FAS has the best range of (legitimate) job offers, have been called for interview from applying through them before.

Sounds like a scam that was on gumtree not so long ago.

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055609941

The wording also sounds... weird. They say "excellent wages" yet they also list the wages. That, and "location" & "night"are singular, not plural. Doesn't smell right. If you don't have a job, go for it, and see what does it entail, and post up the results here, as a possible warning for a new scam, if it is a scam...
