Just replaced the screen in an acer laptop travelmate 5220, everything fits fine, but the new screen is completly blank when I power the laptop, does the new screen need drivers before it powers on or should it just be a straight swap like I was expecting....tks

Should be a straight swap. Has a connection come adrift?

it is a straight swop. Sound like the inverter is blown.

    maybe check the connections again.

put back in the old screen, see if that is still working (depends on condition of old screen)

What was originally wrong with the screen?

thanks I'll try the old screen again and see if there's any light from it (screen is all cracked). Laptop is powering on. Is there an invertor in the screen, it got a bad knock to break it..

If you can see anything on the new screen (and it is very dark) that means that the inverter is damaged. If you cannot see anything on the new screen this might be damaged screen cable/socket or faulty new screen.
