    Hey.

I have been offered a place on the M. Phil in Modern Irish History for this year. Can anybody here fill me in on what it entails, as in what the lecture times/hours are like? When does it start?

The only thing preventing me from accepting straight away is the fee - 7200 euro!! Is there a registration fee seperate to this also?
Do Trinity offer any kind of assistance to students with financial problems? I read on the site something about being able to pay the fee in two seperate installments, didn't give much away though.

I know these are alot of questions but if somebody could help with a few I would really appreciate it.

    David

    Here's academic year structure - http://www.tcd.ie/calendar/academic-year/academicyear-0910.pdf

And info on the course - http://www.tcd.ie/history/postgraduate/ireland.php - though not yet updated for 2009/10 - e.g. at least some of those options will not be available because of staff retiring or on sabbatical. Unlikely that they have the timetable sorted out fully yet but worth contacting the course director about any queries.

Updated fees for this year - http://www.tcd.ie/Treasurers_Office/fees/fees_pgnew.php - has your course at 7300+, but when you're paying full fees registration should be included in that. This the thing about the two instalments? http://www.tcd.ie/Treasurers_Office/fees/fees_twoinstalls.php

Thanks for the info., a great help.

I am also in the hunt for accomodation. I would be looking for somewhere in the Wicklow direction, as far down south towards Wexford as possible. If anybody can help or supply me with a good contact I'd really appreciate it...

Can anybody who might have done this course last year tell me what the hours are like? I will be doing quite a bit of travelling and relying on buses alot....

I can't tell you what the hours are like, but I wouldn't say it will be too intensive. History at postgrad level is more about doing your own research with some direction from the classes. I had the course organiser teaching me at undergrad level and she is fantastic. Really knows her stuff, very approachable, puts herself out for her students. I don't know what level of involvement she has with the course though. 7,200 is really steep though!
