Kickboxing is the only one I've ever done. It seems fairly good to me- focussed more on the martial than the art, if you know what I mean.

It's not the martial art, it's the martial artist.

Having done ITF TKD for several years, I'd highly recommend it. I have no other reference, but for me it was very fulfilling.

At beginner level you progress at a manageable pace until you can perfect the basic techniques before moving on to the more advanced. For female memebrs, the focus on technique over brute force enables even the slightest of figures to generate huge power in the strikes - all very practical also.

It really depends on what you're looking for from it. In terms of functional striking, kickboxing is probably the most effective of the ones you have mentioned. If you were really looking to go as realistic and functional as possible, muay thai would be worth looking into. There are so many different reasons that people get into different types of MAs, so if you explain what you want to get out of it, it might be a little easier to advise.

to tell you the truth these are the 3 most connected martial arts you could have mentioned :)

tang soo do is a form of korean karate which is what taekwon-do was prior to the formation of the ITF.

kickboxing was used to describe freestyle full contact "karate" fights on TV in the US. but many of these fighters were from TKD/TSD/Karate etc :)

finally as said there is no "better martial art" just the one that you like the most ;)

It's a matter of personal preference. Just try to get along to some clubs, try out the classes and see which one works best for you.

Regardless of what you chose, you'll only get out what you put in - train hard in any martial art with a good instructor and you'll do well.

What are you looking for out of those martial arts?
    Self-defence, sparring, kata's, etc...

Just so the lads can compare like with like ;)

It's not the martial art, it's the martial artist.

Please don't start up stupid threads.
