Extension dates poll

I've been wondering how many people have got extensions to the earliest date possible (31/10/09) as it appears to me that quite a number of us have.

Maybe because we all have restricted stuff or something :D, but I'll stick up a poll and see how it turns out.

I've not done this before and I need this to be a multiple entry one as some people have more than one cert and more than one date.

OK, that didn't work so well, I wanted people to have multiple choices (got that bit alright) and more than one vote (that didn't happen) so if anyone else thinks they can have a go, please do so :)

Mine are extended until the 31/OCT/2009 I have restricted stuff, just in case you need to know for stats. It would be interesting to know if the people who have dates passed the 31st of Oct have restricted firearms in their portfolios

31/10, no restricted gear (are Air Pistols restricted?)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,244 ✭✭✭rrpc

    I'm a special case :D

I have two pulse ID's and one restricted item (it's not actually restricted, but that has to be asserted) so I have two renewal dates: one for each pulse ID.

    You're missing something. :)
You can apply a maximum of three months in advance.

And that is the point that people seem to be missing.

For those with long extensions the Gardaí will not want to see their applications until 3 months before their extensions expire. It will be difficult enough dealing with the applications that are tight for time without having non urgent applications clogging the system.

    +1

Also those who are making substitutions or other variations to an existing cert may apply for that at any time regardless of when their extension runs out.

31/10/09 for me - 2rifles, 2 shotguns- will however be trading in shotgun for another rifle- so will be going in with 1 shotgun -2 rifles and a new application for another rifle just to get things going:D

    Who voted 31st July 2010?

According to the SI, the last date was 30th June, so noone should have got that date. I put it in because the Act stated it would finish on the 31st July.

The poll results so far indicate that just over half of us have something restricted or something deemed to be restricted. To date that appears to be either:

A pistol of any kind or
    A semi auto shotgun or
A semi auto rifle of any calibre.

It also seems that anyone with three or more firearms also has one of the above, leading some observers to conclude (incorrectly to my mind) that it's the quantity rather than (or as well as) the quality :D

    ORLY?

I has a semi auto rifle and got to 31/05.

I said: "to date that appears to be" :p

Not that stupid you know ;)

But now of course it appears not to be, unless someone comes on and proves that it depends :D

Old man's .22 and shotgun both put out till 31Jan. He doesnt want the hassle of getting a safe, so I've plenty of time to get an app in for his .22. Mine is 31Oct. Will have to convince them my pistol is designed for Olympic Disciplines (which it is BTW)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,038 ✭✭✭✭Sparks

Bigred, you're one of the few I know who can actually show that their pistol is designed for the Olympics because that's the manufacturer's design brief!

Feinwerkbau P44 - top class piece of kit. Pricey though (€1300). Learnt my trade on an old russian IZH46M - same model Sparks has.

Well single shot air pistols don't tend to have a lot of other uses. Especially ones with foot long barrels* and one-handed grips. ;)

Are people still receiving these extension letters - or put it another way, have people received some, but not all of their expected letters? I got the extension letter for my rifle a week ago, but my pistol letter still has not arrived:(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,398 ✭✭✭ormondprop

we got five of them on the same day, all expire on 31st of january, went into the garda station to get the forms and the garda chatted away to me for ages explaining what she could about it, she told me not to bother applying until about christmas as they have too many to process before ours and wont do anything with ours till about then anyway, and just incase its put aside or lost while they process others, that we'd be better off holding out for a while before bringing them in

I wouldn't be waiting around asking questions on here - go to your FO urgently and ask/write looking for the letter or a copy of one that may have gotten lost in the post, as technically your fourth is not licenced now...

when i dropped off the forms for the others and that one he told me not to worry about it, and i brought up the same point you made and i was told its a new system and there are bound to be glitches!!!!:(
