New thread, my Logic's dead

Hoping some of you Logic Pro 8 guys can help with the following.

I started up Logic today as normal and it started up in the usual manner. About 30 seconds in it stopped at the "SEARCHING FOR AUDIO UNIT PLUG INS" point.

It just hung there and didn't Crash.

I was able to click on file and open a recent project

All of the channel strip instruments and plug ins, Apple and third party, had a line going through them.

When I try to play the tracks I get the following error message "Logic Pro has detected a possible conflict between one or more third party MIDI or audio drivers". Then it crashes.

I have disabled all my third party stuff and spent hours trying to find a solution on the net without any joy.

    Can anyone help?

    Thanks

    Rockshamrover.

if it was a pc the most obvious solution would be to do a full uninstall, clean your registry (not sure how important this is on a mac) and re-install.

    would probably work for you.

    Thanks DT,

I don't really fancy doing a reinstall, some people with similar problems did this to no avail.

I will keep searching and hope I can find a way around this.

    Thanks again.

Try these in order and stop at whatever step works.

    1.Make sure you get prokit 5 http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/

2.Open disk utility and repair permissions on your startup disk then restart.

3.Open logic without audio by holding down control as you open it then go to preferences audio units manager and rescan. Note that melodyne apparently causes problems with logic 9 http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2047

4.Go to your home folder then library>preferences and drag the following to your desktop.
    com.apple.logic.pro.plist
    com.apple.logic.pro.cs

If none of the above work post back and there is other stuff we can try

    Hi Trackmixstudio,

I will give these a go.

    Thanks a lot.

    Hi TMS,

I have done all of the above.

On step 3 I was able to open up Logic but when I clicked on Audio Units manager in preferences, nothing came up. It didn't crash and I got no error messages.

Again I opened up a project and all the plugins and instruments are crossed out.

What's the next step? I really appreciate this.

    Thanks

See if built in audio works.
Open holding control then go to preferences audio and select built in audio.
If the track plays through built in audio there must be a problem with your audio interface/driver.
Do an au scan when you have selected built in audio.
If you find no plugins check Mac HD>library>audio>plugins>components.
This is where your plugins live so they should be there.

Open Audio Midi Setup Apps>utilities and see if your interface is there and rescan midi while you are at it.

Last thing to try is set up a new user account System preferences>accounts.
If everything works ok with the new account there must be a problem with your preferences or setup.
Put your os install disk in and shut down. Power on while holding the "c" key to boot from the install dvd. Use disk utility to repair your start up disk.

TM, you have the patience of a saint.

I tried some of the above and I am kind of half way there. Logic is seeing my Apogee Duet and will play some of Logics own internal plugs. I cant see ultrabeat or any of the inbuilt synths.

It will not start up any of my third party instruments or plug ins and it does not give me the option to insert these or Apples own missing ones.

    Really strange.

When I log out and try to restart normally, I am getting stopped at the same point. I can only start up using CNTRL.

Does this make things easier or more complicated?

    Thanks again.

    HJ,

I got this fixed eventually. I just had to dump my audiounits cache and it was up and running again.

    Thanks
