Digitizing old APS film.

    Hi,

I've got about 20 rolls of Advanced Photo System film that i would like professionally digitized. Is this a possibility or should i just scan the prints myself? I would prefer the actual film to be used as the quality is pretty good and my scanner is crap. If the first option is possible would it be expensive seeing as APS doesn't seem to be widely used anymore?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

it'd be cheaper to go somewhere like here:
    http://www.thelightexchange.ie/digifacil.htm
and rent a pro scanner for a couple of hours rather than pay €10 per film if you leave them into a pro lab

OTOH there's a bit of a learning curve associated with getting the best out of your scans. Also that place has an Epson 750 for scanning purposes, hardly a pro scanner, at least for 35mm.

If you just want scans for web upload and maybe small prints I'd try any one hour place and see if they can scan them and put them onto disk. AFAIK at the height of the crazy APS fad a lot of minilabs were replaced with ones that could handle APS. Particularly try Kodak places, and Fuji aswell. It was originally a Kodak format so they were quite aggressive at pushing out the new equipment.

Apologies for hijacking your thread redeemer, but a question:

How long more do you reckon will APS film be available in the shops? It's difficult to find an APS camera for sale any more from what I'm told ....

    Thanks.

No prob Manuel, i still really miss my old Nikon APS. It was a great camera and the quality of the prints was amazing. That was until some bugger stole it in India :(

Thanks for advice people, i'll probably just get them scanned onto a disc.
