"No, Johnny, the Dog did not eat your homework. You ate the dog."

"and we have the video to prove it!"

What the UK does Today, Dublin copies tomorrow :(

I like the mention of breeding licenses in the comments of the actual article. Sounds like a great plan.

Surely then, what Dublin does today, the UK copies tomorrow.

Except that we haven't done this

I think the reasoning behind this is that you have families from socially deprived backgrounds causing a lot of trouble with their offspring, and one way of tackling this is to force their kids to go to school in the hope that they might adapt to education and abandon some of their more anti social tendencies. Since there is a loophole there to be exploited with public housing the gov. will use it. A pragmatic approach to a complex problem. Not one I agree with though, the anti social underclass imo are in many ways a product of ill thought out socio economic policies of the conservative reign of the 80s. Now they have the fallout to deal with from the love affair with friedmanomics so they're adopting an end justifies the means approach which will probably, on the law of averages, be abused and used for big brother purposes in the future.

If they make a mistake with ID Card, Web snooping, DNA records, deciding to install CCTV in your house or even make erroneous Court records "They" are not to blame.
