Have a basic zefal which rattles like hell. I want to buy two black cages, can anyone recommend a cheap, light, sturdy, rattle free cage!

Either Wiggle or CRC will do fine.

    Tacx TAO are my favourite

Ive tried the metal/wire and hard plastic ones they either break going over bumps or bend over time and are only suitable for one size of bottle.
The best I have found are all Topeak brands as follows (I have all three) and my favourite is the modula because I think its the strongest and is adjustable to take many different bottle sizes.

Cheap, cheerful and work well ? Specialized Ribcage. They even look pretty good and are quite light.

I got myself a couple of these and found them fine. I'm not too keen on the branding on them but haven't got around to sanding it off yet. Cheap as chips though.

You can get very many styles of carbon fiber bottle cages on eBay usually for less than €10 each. I currently use these ones which come in at around €17 delivered for the pair (works out €8.50 each). I must say that I am actually quite pleased with them. A very good price, really light (21g and 25g...don't know the reason for the difference in weights tbh) and hold the bottles reasonably securely compared to the previous styles I bought off eBay too. If you look around, you will surely see something that tickes your fancy...good luck!

EDIT: Would you be interested in the Blackburn Chicane Bottle Cages I am selling over on Adverts.ie? The most reliable cage I have ever come across, light and a very good price! ;)

I've got two of those cheap carbon cages too (in the link Tiny provided in the thread linked to above - I went for the same design as AstraMonti, though they do have 5 designs to choose from). Really like them, look good and they hold the bottles well with no rattle.

No. I have a selection of traditional 750ml bottles and all seem to fit very well.

It was a worry when I first ordered.

And when I got the cages the first thing I did before putting them on my bike was a test fit with my bottles.
Initially I thought they were way too tight a fit.

But once mounted on the bike the fit was, in a word, perfect.

Just the right amount of force. Very well designed and engineered.

Up till these I had been using regular alloy and steel cages and had tried (and liked) a plastic Planet-X (?) cage. The alloy cages eventually break due to repeated stresses. The Planet-X was only for road use (a bottle would fall out on an off-road route).

I got the carbon cages as a treat to tart up my newly built road bike. The fit and feel is so good that I'm awaiting another pair for my mountain bike.

Durability.....?....only time will tell. But four cages for €37 (fluctuating exchange rate :)) delivered :D

Me too. I like 'em a lot. They're solid and have loads of grip. I've used them with both tacx and camelbak bottles and they're fine. They also match my Planet-x near perfectly.

My only wee issue is that they actually hold the bottles too well and I might consider getting ones that are a bit looser for racing as it can occasionally be a slight fumble to get the bottle back in while hammering it.

    Those spesh ones appeal...

Thanks to the OP and to Junior for linking back to the previous thread where this was discussed. Just ordered myself a pair of 20g (we'll see :p) carbon cages off Ebay for the princely sum of €18.32!

Can't go wrong really. Unless they're brutal. Then it could go very wrong. :D

Are there any that combine something for holding a pump?

The vast vast majority of frame-fit pumps come with some form of holder that is attached by the screws for the bottle cage, i.e. sits under the cage.

If you haven't got the pump already though, I would strongly recommend using CO2 canisters instead. Much smaller, quicker, and you can get a proper tyre pressure from them. I'm yet to use a frame fit pump that provided decent tyre pressure.

Granted the canisters are a few quid each, but if you check your tyre pressure before each spin and your tyres are in good nick, you shouldn't puncture very often.

I actually have both. Which is complete overkill since I haven't had a puncture in a year. (Specialized Amadillos etc). I'd like to reduce what I carry in the pannier and other seem to just have everything on the bike. Bottle, pump, repair kit.
