I was caught speeding in Newry by the PSNI with a speed camera they were hiding behind construction works.

Anyway since I'm from the Republic will I get 2 penality points and a fine of €80?

No points. You'll get a fine which I'd recommend you pay due to the fact that the PSNI are getting less and less patient with southern drivers.

edit: I presume you were pulled rather than just flashed? I've been flashed by northern GATSO vans and nothing has ever come of it. If you were pulled and details taken its the fine scenario.

In that scenario you need to be pulled in to be fined.

No I was not pulled over, they continued pointing their camera at other cars behind me. Does that make sense?

How do you know you were "caught" then?

Because I was approx 17 miles over the speed limit judging by my Sat Nav.

There were 2 PSNI officers, one on each side of the road, both were pointing their hand held speed cameras at my car.

if you were not pulled over i would hazzard a guess and say you will get nothing in the post. they probably thought to themselves, not worth the hassle and paper work, we'll just catch the next local guy!

It's your lucky day. If you weren't pursued, you weren't caught.

Do us a favour and slow down near those workers? If you hit one at 30mph, there's an 80% chance he'll live. If you hit one at 40mph, there's an 80% chance he'll die.

I know it's hard to stick to 30mph there because I'm from Dublin myself and I travel up and down often.
