    Hi,

I will be going into my third year of college to finish my level 7 degree. For the past two years, I have been given free tution fees by the government but had to pay registration fees of €500 the 1st and €900 for last year. This September the fee will have to be paid again, but this time climbs to whopping €1500.

I hope I am not the only one feeling stressed by this burden. I know I should be grateful I live in a society with free tution fees, but after taking moderate regsitration fees for granted already this is really piling on the bricks.

Both my parents are retired now and Ive worked only part time over the summer. I dont live at home, so Ive had to pay rent. I have never applied for rent allowance. Would this be all I could get if I tired?

What would be the best course of action for my finances in general this coming September?

i need more info on the registration fee.

if i am getting full grant do i get this paid for me?

If so is it paid for me or do i have to pay it and apply to recoup the costs?

does every student whether they are on the grant or not have to pay this out of their own pocket?

I'm not too sure exactly how this works. I assume if the grant has been awarded at that stage then it will be paid on your behalf. If not the college may expect you pay it yourself and claim it back from the council/vec. Apply as soon as possible and hope for the best.

Going to the VEC started my nightmare last time. I was told for me this was not the place, that I had to go to my County Council... went over there was reffered to the health board > went there got a pile of forms!!! Really long winded hard questions... I just gave up in the end... not this year though!

firstly you dont apply to health board for education grant.

secondly, the registration fee, i was filling out grant form today and it mentioned that if the grant has been awarded prior to deadline for this fee to be paid the county council will pay it. if you are still waiting to get confirmation of your grant you have to pay it yourself and apply for a refund from county council when you do get accepted onto the grant.
