3rd gen ipod resets itself

I have an old 15gb 3rd gen ipod from '03. I changed the battery in it a few yrs ago, but since then its has been resetting itself intermittently. Mostly its resetting itself if I don't turn it on for 4/5 days, but then again sometimes it doesn't. It doesn’t look like its related to the battery charge either. Have restored…
