Visiting Ireland for 2 weeks, need advice on data plan

    Hi,

I am visiting Ireland for 2 weeks, travelling around most of the country. My iPhone is unlocked. I am wondering which carrier/plan would be best for me. I probably use over 50MB/day which was the limitation for a lot of prepaid plans. If you do postpay/billpay, is there any contract? I'm just trying to be able to use the iphone for data, I don't really care much about using it for voice.

    Thanks,
    Jim

I don't think you could get a contract for so little time.

The other option is prepay, which is 99c a day for 50MB then 3c per KB after that, can get very expensive.

I think your best bet would be to get access to wifi points around the country, You may pick up some free ones but most hotels now offer free wifi and a lot of coffee shops offer free/paid(mostly) wifi too. Also for the times while travelling you have 50MB a day anyway on prepay.

They have a 10 euro a week plan, the modem is 69 euro, just take the SIM out and stick it in your phone. You can send me the modem after the two weeks :D

The week plan is limited to 2GB per week, alternatively you could go for a month of prepay for 25 euro and have a 10GB cap.

or you could just buy the PAYG SIM from Three, and for 9.99 you get 1GB of data allowance which lasts for 30 days.

Thanks guys. Three sounds like the way to go for me then. Thanks for all your responses. Is 3's service decent?

as long as your going to be near a fairly populated area you should be fine. If your going to be in the back of beyond in a cottage or something then forget getting 3G.

here is a link to their 3G coverage map:-

Yep 3 would be your best bet with the Pre-Pay Data Package but if want coverage, then I'd suggest Vodafone Pre-pay as it would generally have the best coverage in the country incase you are going to places which are far away from main towns. I mean, while you're over here and out and about of you're hotel, would you really need more than 50mb?
