Hi, I'm a 17 year old boy and I have started to notice hair loss, i.e when washing my hair my hands are covered in hair afterwards, and my pillow always covered in hair in the morning. Is this unusual for someone of my age? I'd really prefer not to be bald by my early twenties.

If I were you, I'd go to the GP and mention your concerns. It could be something like an underactive thyroid, which can cause hairloss, but is treatable. Your GP will be able to advise best.

Como - just wondering while on topic. I have been experiencing a bit of abrupt hairloss over the last year which i though was due to stress, just wondering what are the other symptoms of underactive thyroid if you know?

This is a thread about hair loss, not thyroid problems, so please don't derail it. You can do a simple search on Google yourself and find the information you need.

And please remember that medical advice cannot be given on Boards, so please don't ask for it.

go see a doctor. there are numerous medical causes of hair loss including thyroid. could be infectious either.
potentially its easily fixable - but go see doc before it progresses
