My BF and I had a convo tonight about when we became sexually active (just led on from what we were discussing) and I nearly fell off the chair when he told me he'd first touched a girl and been touched at age 12! Now I know I was a late bloomer by anyone's standards, not having my first kiss until I was 16 and other stuff in my late teens, but 12 is absolutely appalling to me! I didn't know anyone who was even kissing at that age. I wasn't overly sheltered (lived on a dodgy estate and went to a roughish school) but even then the 'cool kids' were only getting into this stuff at 15 or so. Am I just mega naive? I'd throw a fit if I thought my child was getting up to this stuff at the age of 12! I almost feel sorry for him or something, I'm sure he loved it at the time but jaysus when I was 12 I was pretty much a kid into horses and shopping, not groping lads! I'm just hoping someone will tell me this isn't the norm or my child will be locked in the house until he's 16!

Hmmm. I'm 26M now and a bit of a late bloomer like yourself. From what I remember, in 6th class, (when I was 12) the odd lad was getting "the shift" and not much else and thought it was great at the time. Few were riding by junior cert though. Or at least they said they were.

My cousin was a right little strumpet, she used to suck lads off when she was 13/14 and I hadn't even kissed a girl at that stage. I was like wtf? Madness.

I have heard nasty stories about teenage discos though. I remember driving though a nearby village after one about 11PM not too long ago after vistin my mates and I came up to a T junction and there in front of me on the bench was a young'un gettin lashed out of it with her skirt up around her waist. And when the lights of the car got on them she turned round, then visibly shrugged it off and continued what she was doing.

    *shudder.

I never want kids.... I never want to be worrying about that sh*t!

    Hi,

I'll adit that it's not common, but 12 is generally regarded as the age that puberty begins. However, not everyone is the same and some begin puberty before then, even below 10 in some cases. I had my first kiss at 17, but I know a guy who lost his virginity at 12. Plus, I have heard many cases of people kissing at 12. As this thought sinks in for you, you'll come to accept it more. I know that it's a shock fr you right now, but that's because you only found out tonight.

Oh I know puberty begins around then, sure I had my period at 10 and was wearing a bra by 11, but I definitely wasn't letting boys put their hands in my knickers at that age!

Not being rude to you OP, but does it really matter to your future together, how you feel about him, or what you think about him? If not, forget his past.

one of my ex's was apparently 10 his first time  me myself, i was 18. though i did have my first snog aged 8 lol. it worries me as a parent what my kids will be up to when teens, i can only hope they are as old as i was (yeah right).

i wouldn't say it wasn't normal though, most kids get feelings at that age, and some experiment. i wouldn't dwell on it with your BF though, it doesn't matter in the big sceme of things :)

  • My BF was pretty much the same (Irish college ). I find it shocking. I was an early developer and definitely had sexual thoughts back then and looked up naughty stuff on the internet (lol) but no way was I anywhere close to letting a boy finger me. I remember being 14 and going away with a group for 2 weeks, there was snogging and I assume touching between some kids but they were considered pretty forward even for 14. Quite a lot of my friends didn't even have their period when they were 12. Good God. I 'babysit' for 12 year old boys and girls and they're kids. The thought of them doing anything sexual is really quite repulsive. I'd like to think 'most' kids aren't up to stuff but my BF seems to think it's fairly common. :(

If a boy at 12 understands sex and gets someone else who'd be willing to go for it they'd do it-the only reason they dont is they dont understand it or the girls are just a bit brighter than them and wont let them near them..just aswell girls are a couple of years maturity ahead of boys or there would be loads of pregnant 13 year olds..

Its called experimentation, dont worry about it. it is common too
