Almost-immediate second chance offer?

Hi guys, I'm a little suspicious, but wanted to see what anyone else thought. I'm not an experienced ebayer....

I was outbid earlier on today for an item on ebay - the bidding went up to about £292 and my final bid was 245. Bids were all private and anonymous...is that normal recently?

The auction ended earlier today, and within about an hour (give or take) I received a 2nd chance offer at my highest bid 245 pounds (+ pnp etc). Am I wrong to be suspicious? This seems a little soon to me - surely there were at least 2 bidders that pushed the price from 245 to 292, which means I'd be 2nd in line for a 2nd chance offer...

It seems to me it'd take a little longer than an hour to find out that the winning bidder (and possibly the highest-bidding loser) were somehow not legitimate bids?

I'd be very wary that the other bidder was a shill there purposely to get the best price.

Joined on the 19th of July, 10 positive feedbacks, 2 buyers have bought twice and the 3rd last and the last are different buyers yet the feedback is exactly the same.

    Scam Alert!

The private bidders can be set by the seller when you're setting up the item.
The duplicate comments come because eBay will sometimes suggest things that were previous filled in on forms.
Those two things alone wouldn't bother me, but the low feedback, short time as a member and immediate second chance would.
    Steer clear.

You shouldn't even have considered bidding in this auction for the following reasons:

    1. Location - Estonia!!! NOOOO!!!!
    2. Only on eBay since 19th July 2009 and only a seller on two occasions - of two low value items.
    3. Even if the location was here in Ireland, it's tempting fate to buy expensive items from newbies with such little feedback. :)

I asked Seller how s/he was able to offer me a second chance so soon after the auction ends - the reply says that the seller "received an offer from ebay telling [them] that the winning bidder was no longer registered" a no-activity username was offered (who is indeed no longer registered) but there is so much suspicious about this deal that I'll leave it.

Thanks for confirming my suspicions, folks!

Edit: Would Paypal protection not help in this kind of situation?
