Apologies if this is the wrong place to be asking :)

Is there any sort of list/register for photographers in Ireland? Or even any kind of organisation that would keep that kind of information? I'm trying to find some info on my great grandfather who was a photographer (it even says it on his 1911 census) but a lot of sites just seem to have working (and alive ) photographers listed; no surprise there really :p

    Thanks

I wouldn't imagine you'll find too much online, but do you know where he worked from?

You could contact some newspapers. If he did any photography for them they may have a record.

Well he lived in Dublin all his life, pretty much city centre. I'm imagining it was somewhere in town. Surely there can't have been too many photographers in Dublin from 1911 up to maybe the 30's?

I'm trawling through the Irish Times Digital Archive at the moment in case there might be any ads placed at the time but it just struck me to check in here to see if anyone might know more

Actually...now that you mention it...one of the family members has a picture that he took of a tram or a bus that fell over in the street and they said that because he lived nearby he got one of the only photographs at the time, and that it was a semi-big deal at the time.

    Hmm, another avenue to explore!
