    Hi Folks,

Should I get the Star L86 or the ARES L86

Don't say neither because I'm getting one of them regardless :-)

I remember a similar discussion about the SA80 and I seem to remember a certain SuperKitty saying the Star was better, despite being cheaper?

Firekitten said that the newer ares models are better, the star isnt... but they arent exactly BAD either...

Ahhh.... so that's what she said :)

The Ares one I've linked to up there, is that one of the "newer Ares models"?

The price is virtually the same for the Ares and Star one, so I presume I should go for the Ares?

nope... both of those are literally identical... look at the specs, they just copied it over.

Theres two types of ares l86/l85. The last runs of the star spec one, and theres now thier own models that are coming out... a lot of places just rebrand **** and call it ares. mostly distributors.

Just like the new ares g36c is much improved over the original star g36 line... If you must have one, the star arent too bad really. But the ares will be better if you wait and find one. The specs difference is the clue. Shop around, you may find one.

The revolution plastic gb is the clue for a star rebrand.

Thats where I will be ordering my L85 from, they have the Ares one out of stock but it costs more than the Stars they do have in stock that are advertised at a ''special'' price. Makes you wonder what is what.

If you are on the lookout for a SUSAT, fire-support.co.uk have about 20 odd in stock and they are made by Ares even though they are listed as new improved Stars models. I don't know what the old ones were like so can't compare.

I got two Ares G36 carry handle sights that were also listed as improved Star models and they are a bit better than the old Star sights. The eye relief is a bit better and the crosshairs are more vivid, but the red dot sight is still the same static dot like the Ares MARS.

Hee hee... I LOLd... "around the block"... "learned things" ... "the wrong people"...

If I was nasty I could put that quote in my sig with no context at all.

    Thankfully, I'm not :)

Capt. Choas: Thanks for the tip. I'm lucky enough I'm allowed buy the gun... might sneak the SUSAT in at a later date :)

I do plan on getting myself an Ares l85a2 at some point, i have an army one atm, and its an a1... its a bit **** like the real one tbh. The a2 lives upto its real design, it shows practical things... like the mag guard, the cocking handle, and the tougher handguard... all real features that improved, and are just as effective in Airsoft.

I will look around and find you an ares 86 Capedcruisader...

I just saw on airsoftworld.net the Ares L85 and it has a different handguard with larger openings than on other L85 which have the smaller openings. S0 would this be a true Ares?

Cheers, man. Do you know anything about the handguard design change on the RS, I'm a sucker for accurate replicas. I have never heard about or saw a a pic of the real things with them fitted. Any article I have read has said the main and only external difference between the A1 and A2 was the cocking lever.
