    HI all,

I am flying home from the US next week and will fly with Continental to London and then from Lodndon to Cork with Aerlingus. They were not booked as one ticket/journey.

Will I be subject to Aerlingus' Shorthaul baggage allowance or might they show me some leeway since I originated in the US? Id be thinking in terms of the bag being 23kg instead of 20kg-might they show some compassion?? Or would that depend on how full the flight was or how early I checked in?

I have already paid for 9kg exta but I still dont think that will be enough

    Gulp...

I don't think there will be any leeway when it's a separate ticket.

Yes you will be charged. A friend of mine was charged over €100 recently by Aer Lingus for being over the baggage allowance on a flight from London to Dublin, having flown from the USA to London and then on a seperate Aer Lingus flight to Ireland.

it used to be that if you were flying EI transatlantic and connecting to Europe within two weeks (on separate ticket) you did not have to pay baggage. I think this is now gone.
