Reduced price ferries, according to the website. http://www.norfolkline.com/EN/Ferry_offers/Online/

Car & Driver EUR 85, supposedly, which would be a good price - but when I tried I got a higher price. Worth checking, I think.

I've never used them. Anyone have any experience?

Haven't sailed with them although I am thinking of doing so as a foot passenger from Liverpool to Dublin, as an alterative to flying Ryanair .It's the longer sailing journey that might put me off more than anything .

Have used them twice, and can highly recommend them. Both times we took night-time sailings and dinner when you get on board, a cabin for the night, and breakfast before you dock, was all included in the price.

Back in May I got Dublin-Liverpool return, for two plus car, dinner/cabin/breakfast, for €100! Worth keeping an eye out for their special offers.

They're set up as a truckers ferry really, so not much to do on board, but if you're sleeping overnight then you won't really care!

I would definitely recommend them as well. Used them to get over to the Heineken Cup Final in Edinburgh. Staff extremely friendly. Food is usually included (breakfast and evening meal - it's not superb, pretty standard fare but nice). Bar is v cheap on board.

As a regular traveller on this route, its grand.

    You should try it.

Also highly recommend this route (either P&O or Norfolk Line).
No kids running round banging on doors for a laugh.
No drunks being sick (most of the passengers are working truckers).
At Liverpool you are on good roads immediately, and Motorways pretty soon afterwards.
Get on, get fed, get to sleep, get up and have good shower, get fed again, get rolling - simples!

I especially like the day sailing - cabin is dead cheap and I can drive and make good time during the quieter traffic periods.

I'm thinking of using the dublin to liverpool birkenhead night sail with norfolk line. I'll be a foot passenger. Just wondering is it difficult to get transport to Manchester from bikenhead. Anyone ever try it? Norfolk line have good fares for sports fans if your travelling as a foot passenger. Check out www.norfolkline.com/EN/Ferry_offers/Sports/

    How long does this take?

The boat gets into Birkenhead and you get off about 5.45 - 6 am. Its down at the docks so is quite isolated. You would need a cab to get out of there.

I think it takes 7-8 hours. It's possible to get a cabin and hopefully sleep for the majority of the journey!
