    not really no
all you can do is turn off your wi fi, turn down the brightness of your screen to make it last a bit longer

Or ring apple if within warranty and demand a replacement.

Anyone I know that has an iPod had charged theirs as long as they would a phone when they first got it(8-12) hours and they would last for 3-4 days with regular use of apps and songs, whereas mine wouldn't last the day.

Makes no difference how long you charge it the first time!

Baz it's probably a dodgy battery. How old is it? Bring in back to the shop?

an official apple page which describes the full charge to zero process and says to do it once a month.

    http://www.apple.com/batteries/iphone.html

an unofficial guide on battery care that says to do it at the start.. i don't particularly mind what ye do, i've read it, done it and battery seems good. it cant hurt to pay attention at the start

Yeh google i have read that before.I had issue's with my iPhone battery But the Apple one does not mention that for your first charge should be a long one. In fact it does not mention how long you should charge your device even for.Which was what i was looking for.

I think baz reckons because he did not charge his ipod for 10 on it first charge, that it has affected the battery.

as an aside point, apple might not say this if it were true as there would be calls for this initial battery care to be performed in the factory..
