Time to get back into shape!

    How's it goin folks!

I'm about to get the finger out this weekend and finally change my eating habits but I dont know where to start. I'm also rejoining the gym to focus on running and weights so i want to do what it takes to get myself into shape. Some advice would be much appreciated!

My diet in recent times is poor to say the least.

    Breakfast- cigarette, actimel yohgurt.
Lunch- 4 slices of white bread (or brown) usually with ham and coleslaw. Packet of Hunky Dorys and a chocolate bar too.
Dinner- Massive dinner, usually pasta or rice based. I adore Italian and Chinese food!

I smoke about 10 cigs a day, and this is obviously something I have to pack in as well. Funnily enough, I look in pretty good shape (this cant last much longer, I'm approaching 30!), but I know I cant ever get as fit as I want eating like I do. Another problem I have is I eat my dinners really late, could be about 9pm or 10pm. I dunno how I can work around this however, since I leave for work at 8am and dont get back in the evening till after 7.

I'd really appreciate any opinions or advice people have on what sorts of food I should be eating in order to get myself into shape. I feel quite tired and sluggish during the day, and every morning I have to drag myself out of bed to go to work, no matter how much sleep I tend to have! So things have to change for me- fast.

    Thanks in advance! :)

Well in terms of your diet this is your one stop shop: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055157091
Essentially everything you need to know is included here, its a really good thread.

As you've said yourself the cigs need to go!

In terms of you meals, is it possible to make something the night before and bring it with you to work so you can eat at more regular times? Having your main meal of the day just before you're going to bed ain't the best.

Fair play on doing something about your health though, and I hope really feel better when you put in the work!

Cheers for that! Apologies for posting this in a new thread, but I'm relatively new to this site so didnt quite know where to start looking. Any other websites or threads that might help me would be appreciated!

And aye, I was thinking of doing that- I think having my main meal at lunchtime would obviously be a good thing, but pasta based dishes are never quite the same heated up in a microwave!

Fair play for taking the step OP, hopefully you'll inspire others to do the same.

I'd also recommend the Fitness Forum, and in particular this sticky:

Absolutely quality advice. Stick by it and you won't go wrong. There's a lot of misleading information out there, particularly "hearsay" and women's glossy magazines which promote harmful and misleading advice on fat loss, exercise (both cardio and weights) and diet.
