can printers be networked using homeplugs with usb connectivity,just wondering as I am getting rid of my wireless, in favour of a more secure and reliable system.

Exactly the same as a wireless or an Ethernet situation. Your printer needs to be either a network printer, have a print server attached or be shared from a PC. Networking is networking.
