I have a few guitars i need insured. None of the standard companies will insure the guitars outside of my home. They say even if i take lessons, then the item is used in a commercial setting and thus it would not be covered.

Can you advise a company who will cover instruments outside and inside the home, regardless of if its just out for practice, gigging for cash etc.

Standard practice on most household policies is that anything that is under €1250 is covered under the "All risks" section which basically means that it is covered for theft and accidental damage as well as fire etc. and can be taken out of the house (rings come under this section). Normally if you have anything above this you have to declare it and they will charge you a 5% rate on it (i.e. €2000 guitar will cost €100 a year to insure).

Allianz have a scheme in England that's promoted on the Trinity College London brochure so you could check them.

Lloyds are moving here and also insure the more out of the ordinary things so you could check them if you're not getting anywhere.

This is based on working in insurance a good while back but hope it give you an idea of what questions to ask
