Husband selling part of his business without wife's permission

This is kind of a vague question but one of my dearest friends is so upset. She arrived at my door this morning in a state because her husband is selling half the (successful) business they built up together to one of his employees. She has never been an employee of the company and her name isn't on any paperwork but she does alot of unpaid work and stays in a crap yet well paid job so the bills can be paid while the business grew.
She's devastated and figures he can't do this without her permission. They're happily married (so far) and he says he wants to free up cash so she can give up her day job and return to college. She's happy to continue her studies by night and wants to retain full ownership of the business. He won't hear of it and says she has no say because it's not her business.
She's seeing a solicitor on Tuesday but should I get the Kleenex and chocolate in?
