Arch Pain

Just looking for some advice, regarding a pain I'm getting over my whole arch on my left foot. About 4 months ago it started happening about once a week just for a few hours but it never effected my running, however last week I got some very bad pains while on a run and the result was i couldn't walk properly for two days. I had run the Adidas 5 mile only a few days before with no problem from it at all so I thought maybe i just pulled something but since then it's been a constant dull pain and if i try running it gets worse.

I'm training for Dublin Marathon and I'm very worried this will ruin the whole thing. Should I just buy arch supports or go to a physo? I heard in elverys in Dublin they study the way you run and can advise what supports you may need.

Any advice would be great, as I dont want to go spending loads of money and wasting time when there may be a clear solution out there.

    Many thanks,

    Delta

I'm sorry to hear about your injury Delta. I'm training for Dublin as well. Getting to the start line without any injuries sometimes seems like the biggest challenge of all.

Unfortunately, it sounds like you're going to have to get your injury checked out by a professional. I treat a lot of sports injuries in my surgery, and these can't be diagnosed with a brief description over the web. A proper physical exam is the best way to go, followed up by any other tests if necessary. If you let us know where you're based, perhaps someone here can recommend a surgery nearby that can help you out. A referral from a happy patient is the best way to go.

The sooner you get it treated, the sooner you'll be back out on the road.

    Regards,

    Brian

This is the BEST sort of medical advice to give, and take......

Sounds like you need a trip to the physio - and medical advice is not permitted on here anyway.

Regarding the Elvery's thing - they just do a basic gait analysis, and advise on a type of shoe that suits your gait.
Though I did use their freebie gait analysis, I doubt I would trust their recommendation on arch supports to be honest, thats if they even give it.

If you've never had a gait analysis, then you could be running in an unsuitable shoe.
However, the physio would be the best place to go to check this all checked out.

Definitely get it looked at. Sounds like it could be plantar fasciaitis but very hard to say from reading a post on a message. Get someone good to have a look at it, diagnose it and fix it for you and you should be fine. If you need the name of some good people that Id suggest to see, send me a private message.
