    http://www.bike-eu.com/news/3501/rumours-on-campagnolo.html
There are strong rumours going around in Europe as well as in Asia that Campagnolo has been sold. From various sources this trade journal heard that the sale of the complete company already took place.

Asked whether he could confirm or deny the sale, Campagnolo’s Marketing & Communication director Lorenzo Taxis said: “I am not going to give you an official answer on this, as this is not an official matter inside the company.”

Sources indicate that a Japanese company should have bought Campagnolo and with that of course Shimano springs to mind. A Shimano Europe spokesman said that he heard that rumours too, but that he could definitely deny any involvement of the Japan based component maker.

    i really hope not

Hey, if you can't develop decent product yourself, you buy it in.

Could this be another Radioshack Diversification........

or perhaps Alberto Contador is buying it as a stop gap against LA share in SRAM.... I'll wait to see LA twitter.

AC buying CAMPAG. What a waste of my Tdf winning money. He has alot to learn

I would severely doubt that Shimano would have bought Campagnolo, it would make very little business sense for Shimano. Shimano have a well-founded faith in the engineering quality of their products and presumably realises that much of the appeal Campagnolo has is in the name and the heritage. They would also reaslise that Campy fans have an somewhat illogical, some would say rabid, attitude towards Shimano... Hence buying Campy would devalue that brand...

Apart from that Shimano are pretty dominant now even just looking at the higher-end road market... I would say they would be more worried about SRAM than Campagnolo, they are a far far bigger company which competes with Shimano across the line. Campagnolo these days is a bit of a niche player TBH.

Surely since it's a public company it's permanently for sale.

I do not think campag is a public company, can't find a quote for it.
Also in Conti Europe the fact that a co is public does not mean it can be sold. Most public European and Japanese companies are tightly held by families or foundations, meaning that it is next to impossible to acquire them.

If campag is ever bought, it'll be a sure sign that I've won Euromillions.

Would you have enough left after buying Mario Cipollini?

It was an amazingly stupid response from their marketing guy in the first place, the whole purpose of his job is to build brand awareness and maintain consumer confidence & loyalty, talk about scoring an own goal !!!

The usual response from someone in his position, no matter what was going on, would have been to officially deny any such rumours and kill the story dead.

Murph ( Illogical, rabid Shimano hating, Campag fan )
