    Hey everyone,
I'm going to be doing English TSM in Trinity next year and I was wondering if anyone could tell me what books/plays you read in first year?
    Thanks

English syllabus is changing completely next academic year with semesterisation/modularisation, so what people have done in previous years isn't going to be much use! If you're looking for an advanced reading list, contact the English department - if they have one (which they may not yet - probably won't have absolute final versions ready) they can email it on to you.

You will definitely have classes in literary theory, for which the absolute bible is "Beginning Theory: An Introduction to Literary and Cultural Theory" by Peter Barry. You can get it in the library, and it is what gets every class of English students through the end-of-year exams in Critical and Cultural Theory.

Seriously, read it. It will make your lectures in critical theory make a lot more sense.

    you swot! :p
With such enthusiasm you're going to love it! Introducing yourself to some of the big theoretical concepts - as suggested above - is a great idea.
Good luck :D You will have a great time
