    Im doing a charity cycle and only have a mountain bike, its almost 100km over one day...Im training on the mountain bike at the moment but really want to use the racer for the actual event!! I notice there are alot of places renting bikes to tourists etc..but these bikes are more casual and not ideal for a long cycle with 20/30 other racing bikes...Any suggestions???

    These guys seem to have a few different styles of road bike for hire, going by their gallery:

    Assuming it's a charity cycle, the pace may be quite low; you may be more comfortable on a flat-bar racer or an MTB with slicks? You're used to your own bike, so you'll be more comfortable on it. If you rent a bike and ride it over 100km you might be walking bow-legged for a number of days afterwards.

    Thanks Seamus, a great range of bikes there.. It will most likely be a low pace, the bike I am using is my brothers and he is taking part too..Iv been thinking about buying my own bike actually..but to be honest I have no knowlege of bikes..I hadnt cycled a bike in anger since by teenage days (now 26) up to about 2 weeks ago..but I really enjoy the training and I think it could become a new hobby..so I wouldnt mind investing in a decent bike..by the way I havnt a clue what MTB with slicks means!!!!

    My Big Boss is coming over from the states, sometime in the next few months, a keen cyclist, and I need to rent a decent road bike for the day/weekend as I've 'been volunteered'.

    I'm not sure the Phoenix Park stuff cuts the mustard, anyone know of any other options for something more top end? :confused:

    Did anyone flick through the gallery on that site?

    Um WTF?

    @wait for me.
    Find out what size he is. I am sure someone on Boards would rent you a nice bike for a 'reasonable' rent.

    He's about 5 ft 9in, and skinny as a rake. In his late 50's so takes it steady on the downhills, so he tells me.

    He'd bring over his own shoes/pedals etc, so just needs the bike. Rides a Carbon Felt at the moment, not sure which.

    The Phoenix Park guy has an '08 Giant SCR 3, think it's a medium so it might be his size. I don't know of anywhere else that does road bike rentals.

    Don't you have a high-end Giant? Or have I got the names confused.

    Give him yours and rent whatever you can for yourself. He's your boss, so you have to be slower than him anyway.

    when we did the ring of kerry, there was a HUGE amount of bike rental places renting road bikes in Killarney. Depending where your sportive is, you might want to take a look at your destination.

    They only do 2-ton city bikes though. Presenting on of those to the Alpha Fred might be a one-way trip to demotion!
