Mac and TomTom 'favorites'

TomTom's accursed software has again removed my 'favorites' - the destinations I saved - from my GO 520T, and my normal workaround - removing the mapsettings.cfg file before a new map instal and then returning it to its place - hasn't worked.

The folks over on TomTom's own forums gave me this kludgy method:
Take the file containing your favorites, mapsettings.cfg out of its place in your regional map. Use a program called PoiView and open the mapsettings.cfg file in it.

Now, create a custom poi category called, say, My_Favourites and save each of the favourites (using poiedit) as an individual poi that goes into your custom category. Then put that My_Favourites.ov2 file directly into the specific map folder. You can have as many individual poi's as you want in that category, no limit.

Name the file "_My Favourites" (without the "") but notice the _ sign added at the start of the file name, this will put the POI file at the top of any POI index pages saving you scrolling through them all

Once you have the file in the ov2 format use Windows Explorer to copy the file to the map folder on your device, it will be named North_America or Western_Europe.

All hunky dory - except that the mapsettings.cfg file is greyed out when I try to open it with PoiView.

Does anyone use both a TomTom and a Mac, and can you tell me how to get my Favorites back? Off to the back of beyond next week.
