Fiancé wetting himself

    Hi guys

I hope this is the right place to post this but I was hoping that someone might be able to give some advice. Recently my fiance has started to wet himself on occasion after being out drinking. He falls asleep and cant be woken and then sometimes during the night he will urinate on himself. This can happen either on the couch or in bed, it doesn't seem to make a difference.

I'm just curious whether there could actually be any other reason other than he's drinking too much? He maintains that he doesn't drink that much on the occasions it happens but he does have a history of being pretty bingey when he goes out. It just seems a little strange that it never ever happened before and we are going out around 8 years.

He is a diabetic and has been for the last 5 years, I dont know if that makes any difference? I think it is because he drinks too much when he's out but I'd wonder if anyone else has any other opinions?

    Thanks in advance.

    S

From what I know its not hugely common but is a symptom of various illnesses when it is. From what you say a visit to the Doctor is whats needed and because its embarressing you may need to go with him for moral support.

sorry if I seemed a little harsh there, but wow, he is type 2 diabetes and he is still drinking, you could have more of a problem then him wetting the bed. It could be due to high blood sugar level and then crashing, this can cause heavy heavy sleeping if the condition is not managed properly. He can only take 90g of sugar a day, and that probably 3 pints, plus there is sugar in everything so he could well end up with a serious problem if he doesn't control the booze. I would still advice going and seeing a doctor, Im sure he is fine, but it would nullify all worries

Get him to see a doctor.

And make sure his blood sugar levels are ok. Bed wetting can be a common symptom when people are first diagnosed becuase bllod sugar levels are too high.

Give up the drink. I wouldn't touch it if I were pissing myself like that after nights out.

Thanks everyone for their replies. I wasn't aware that it could be a sort of side issue from the Diabetes. Its strange cos generally his control would be ok, his last HBA1C was around 7.5 I believe.

I will try and go the doc with him and see what he says, but I do think that he'll have to at least ease off the drink.

    Thanks again.

Given that he is diabetic, it would be best if he did get checked out by a doctor.

This issue has occurred several times here on PI and the general consensus is that drinking to point where you're pissing yourself is not a good idea.

Good advice here. Its probably best for him to avoid alcohol completely until he does get it checked.

this suggests to me he has a problem with drink full stop.
can't handle it for what ever reason... I think you need to be cruel to be kind and give him an ultimatum -sort it out or else...

Sorry if this sounds bad but this situation seems pretty terrible to me.

ditto everything JY said, get him to the doctors. a common sign of diabetes is the need to urinate more, due to the body trying to get rid of excess sugar. also as JY said he doen't have to drink alot to be 'out of it', he could very well be pretty much slipping into a coma of sorts when he drinks...due to the amount of sugar he has been having. so the being out of it, and increased need to pee may be due to that BUT it could also be a sign of an underlying problem

whichever it is he needs to see a doctor and get it seen to and advise on how to manage his sugar levels better.

sadly my brother and dad are the same (though dad doesn't drink) they both have type 2 but dont bloody listen to anyone about their diet..and wonder why they are always tired and needing the loo etc. lets hope your fiance does listen...diabetes can lead to complications is the person doesn't take care of themselves very well x

Getting too close to medical advice now.
Advise him to go to his doctor

Him having diabetes and being unwakable is way more worrying than the bed wetting.

It could be a diabetic coma which can be fatal. Please encourage your OH to go to a doctor.

Way too much medical speculation here

OP send him to a doctor
