    Hi all

I plan on booking an aerlingus flight from Cork to Heathrow and also an Aircanada flight from Heathrow to Toronto

Even though both flights are booked seperately will I be able to have my bags transferred in Heathrow?

Possibly, however you'll have to check in in LHR for you onward connection as they are seperate bookings.

Officially Aer Lingus policy is no, you won't get your luggage checked through as you have two separate tickets.

You *might* get someone who will do it for you, but be prepared for it not to happen and leave enough time etc to make sure you can collect the bags, switch terminals and re-checkin with Air Canada.

    Thanks for that.

In terms of 'leaving enough time' - how much are we talking?

I would say at least 3 hours, just to be safe.

Have you considered booking your entire journey Cork-Toronto with KLM? Your Cork-Amsterdam leg of the journey would be with Aer Lingus as they codeshare with KLM. It'll mean your baggage automatically gets transferred at Amsterdam and save you time when making the change. Air Canada also fly Dublin-Toronto during the summer months (until September) so that's something else you might want to consider...

Your best option is to ring aerlingus in cork airport with your flight details to see what they say, if you're going soon (before the end of sept) air canada fly out of dublin and also sky service might be all year round, but make sure to leave plenty of time between transfers not only to get you to your next check in point but also your bags especially if your going skiing

Thanks for all that guys. Some interesting advise there.

KLM are much more expensive than Air Canada.

Air Canada from Dublin is an option but I still need to get to Dublin! So going from Cork via London is almost easier.

I can work in the 3 hour gap anyway, and plan on speaking to Aer Lingus in Cork prior to departure day.

    All good!

In my opinion BMI offer a far better service than Aerlingus. I always fly with them to London. Free newspaper, much nice staff, better seats etc

BMI and Air Canada are both part of Star Alliance and will definitely transfer your bags for you at Heathrow. Also bear in mind when you compare the prices on the BMI site it will always appear to cost more because they show you the total cost of the flight unlike Aerlingus.

    Enjoy your holiday!

Edit -- I just looked and BMI only fly Cork -> Manchester. Sorry!
