    Hey all.

I progressed from a telephone interview with Barclays Bank in the UK this morning and have been told that I am to attend a further 2 hour assessment session at one of their nearby training centres next week.

Just wondering has anyone had any personal experience of the above, or any additional advice for me?

To set the scene, Im male, 22, currently studying an MSc in town planning which will be finished this Septmeber. I have lots of customer service and cash handling experience, however, I dont come from a traditional business background and have already had to dodge a few questions re why Im applying for this and not planning and about future career goals.

So any advice on how best to deal with the above would be much appreciated.

    Ta

    Hi M8,

I also have passed my telephonic round with Barclays and have my assessment sometime in next two weeks. Can you help me what kind of activities happened on the assessment day? And how was your assessment?

    Thanks in advance

    Hey there,

Well firstly I have had my assessment put forward to next Wednesday 9th September. What happened was that I am currenty in the process of relocating and FSA requirements state you need 2 printed proofs of residence (i.e. the address given where you applied for, not for the UK in general). So Im currently in the process of trying to sort that out and finishing a dissertation, so might not get around to attending this!

Secondly, my provisional assessment date was around August 12th, so you might be waiting a bit longer than 2 weeks.

Thirdly, you should get an application pack in the post that explains the structure of the assessment. Essentially its divided into 2 parts - a maths test and then role-playing exercises where your customer service is assessed.

Finally, a friend of a friend over here did one at Guildford. She did not get thorugh. She was told by telephone later on the same day. She reckoned she didn't get through because she wasn't friendly enough. She was given a mock brief of a customer (personal and bank details) and had to act accordingly in dealing with the customers' requests. Sounds pretty straightforward, but bear in mind she had spent the previous 3 years in the construction industry, so maybe such things dont come that easy to her.

So bear these things in mind - providing excellent customer service, taking the initiative, making suggestions that fit the customers' profile. As far as I know the maths component was fairly straightforward.

I'll get back to you if I attend the assessment.

    Best of luck!

    Hi,

Thanks for the information provided. Was indeed very helpful. My assessment was scheduled to happen on 11th Sept., but unfortunately I will not be able to attend between 10th-21st September. I had requested any date after 21st September. They said they will get back to me. She did call me after two days but i was travelling in tube and the voice was not clear. I told her to call after 12 noon but she did not. I am afraid...did I lose this opportunity?

Well, it was really nice and interesting chatting with you. My MSN is zia.siddiqui@live.co.uk. Please feel free to add me as pal. Its the same id for my facebook.

Will be in touch with you after 21st september.

    Thanks and take care

If I were you I would contact the branch in where your assessment is taking place to try to rearrange your interview - that's what I plan to do on Monday morning. Found the head office a bit clueless in that respect. :)
