Best option, Don't ring Sony. They'll charge you an arm and a leg.

Plenty of companies will replace it for you cheaper than sony. Google laptop repair and get a few quotes.

Other option is ebay. Get a replacement screen from there and fit it yourself. They also provide instructions on how to do it.

i mashed my sony screen, ebaye and fixed it in bout 10 mins... works perfect, and i study photography in college, so i calibrated it after and there is no reduction in quality from previous screen

Ive never replaced a sony screen, but ive replaced a few in my time. Its not really that hard (assuming sony dont do anything wildly different then other manufacturers).

This might help if your going to DIY, though id be a bit more gentle then this guy, and if you watch to the end, his LCD doesnt have a back light (it was faulty), sometime that just happens.

I just picked that one because its pretty clear to follow, too late for me to go searching the internets now...

Could you post the model of that laptop?

My Dell screen broke and it cost me 250 to repair. Im a student and my mum wouldn't give me the money for a new laptop. I wouldn't go to sony for repairs as i suspect they will charge over the top prices. I second looking online for cheaper alternatives! :)

    wrong wrong wrong

ring your house insurance and they will fix it for €70

with the vaio, you take out all the screws and you pull off the bexel from the inside, ie where it meets the plastic surround meets the lcd, i tried prying one apart with a screwdriver around the outside of the bezel, but the clips wouldn't give, it just falls off when you pry it apaprt from the inside

Does that really work? Who's responsible for the repair? Never heard of that before except in claims for damage caused by other circumstances, ie. flooding, lightening blowing modem etc.

    ring them

a few people had the laptops collected and returned,

but some were told to get me to fix them and just get a reciept/invoice for the insurance company.

to be honest the people who got the collect and return got a duller screen back, one wish he got me to fix it

Screwdriver? You butcher! Use a credit card or something to that effect. I use an old student ID to open up a Acer Aspire One, an Acer Aspire 1560 (i think) and some Dell inspiron. Best tool ever for removing bezels.

Hi all, I have a damaged Latitude D630 screen.

    Got quoted:

€363 for engineer to come out
    €200 for part

These are both from Dell or Dells partners. Anyone direct me to somewher online to get it cheaper? I reckon it should be straightforward to replace.

Does the home insurance one really work?

dell screens are fairly easy to replace as long as you take your time

Its working out at about €114. Would appreciate some feedback on this site if anybody has used it, ty

Ebay has one there for under €100. Im guessing thats the size and shape of your laptop screen anyways.

Its slightly cheaper then that site too, and has 2984 feedbacks!

Woo! Go me. Dont know where abouts you are in the country, but if your in the west and need a hand, gimme a PM.

FYI, a credit card or ID card is really handy for snapping off the bezel of the screen (after you remove the screws of course):P. I was amazed, i took apart an acer aspire 1 with a screwdriver and an ID card.

Thanks Black Knight, I know who to blame if I break my credit card:) By the sounds of it it shouldn't be too hard to do, time will tell I suppose though!

So my screen arrived after 4 days from the UK. All in all €95 including VAT and postage!

I decided to install it myself. Took a bit of time, an hour in total. At the time some of it was a little difficult but once I had it completed I feel I could now do it no problem again! There are a lot of screws but it comes away nicely from the bezel once you figure out which ones need to be removed. Most delicate part is removing the video leads but its not too bad.

All in all very happy, screen is perfect and a great sense of satisfaction by doing it yourself and saving €250 by doing it myself, not sending it to Dell, and €100+ by ordering off ebay. If anybody wants advice more than happy to help!!

This is the guy I bought off:

i know a company that charged my sister around €135 for a replacement, they collected her sony laptop, replaced the screen and sent it back, they put a years warranty on it. But dell screens i think are a bit more expensive, if you want you can pm me and i can try and see where the receipt is and give you the number.
