Laptop has bad BB connection

    Hi guys just had 20mb broadband installed today and found i'm only getting 8mb speed on my laptop whereas my gf is getting 18mb on hers, just wondering if anyone can help me figure out the problem, the laptop is around five years old at this stage i should add! Do i just need a new laptop? :(

    are you using wifi to connect or a cable, an older wifi card could slow things down a bit, 802.11b has a speed of 11mb/sec the newer 802.11g supports 54mb speed

    I'm using a wifi connection yep! Darn, time to replace this thing so

    Not necessarily.

    You could just buy a USB wireless dongle for it.

    It actually gave up the ghost earlier, won't charge anymore :( Anyone know where i could get a decent enough laptop (not for gaming but everything else really) on the cheap?
