i.e could a dev say make a nice neat programme, but then install spyware to get your banking pin when you use online banking?or a virus etc?

or are all apps vetted to make sure this doesnt happen?

i have a jailbroken phone and am just wondering if i should be using online banking on it as it is jailbroken? I know there are always risks, but does the fact that its jailbroken make it a lot more risky?

    Thanks

I would never online bank with my phone. I would only use my phone to call banking.

Technically, yes, it is more risky. I don't believe the apps are vetted, because there isn't a central source for them, as there is with the App store.

However, a lot of banks use a variety of methods to prevent key-loggers from getting your details.

For example, my bank asks me to put in three of the four digits of my PIN, plus four out of the nine characters of my password.

So even if a key-logger is installed, it won't get the full picture.

    I wouldn't sweat it, tbh.

OP this is a very good question. While TD is probably right, I have noticed that on purchasing some apps from Cydia that I am "processed" via google/facebook and then Amazon/Paypal. Now I have no issue with Amazon or Paypal, both are secure IMO, but I have no visibilityof a secure connection during the process. The amounts are small (maybe US$2) and it is only in this context that I allow the details be processed.

If I wanted total security, I wouldn't be buying from Cydia I suppose......

I guess they're vetted in so far as a dodgy app wouldn't last long out there without the community being aware there was something malicious in it. I'd never install anything from Cydia without checking out some comments at least, particularly if I were paying for it.

Yip, that just about sums it up.

If it was bogey, you would probably hear about it. Best you can do, really.
