So this kicked in this morning - anyone used it yet? Will be later this week before I run through it myself on the cycle to work.

Went through this morning. Wesmoreland Street/O'Connell Bridge was more-or-less devoid of traffic (just me, 3 busses and 2 taxis). Twas great. Of course, that could have been a random fluke as I had previously been on Westmoreland street at the same time with no traffic around.

I'd say we won't really know till September kicks in.

    Used it this morning.

Saved a few seconds and a bit of adrenalin, but also reduced traffic along Nassau street, which ironically made it feel more dangerous - cars now going flat out.

Is it just closed off to traffic during rush hour? I must go in some morning and see this!

Yes, except that it's essentially just closed to private traffic. It's really not that exciting looking at a bunch of buses and taxis driving along the road.

    7-10am and 4-7pm

I passed through (on foot unfortunately) at 8.35 was pleasantly surprised at how quiet it was - I'm looking forward to cycling it.

I'd like to know too! How will cars get to the carpark beside the thunderroad cafe?

Edit: that was answered quick! I'd hate to be whoever owns the carpark though...

You have obviously never spent the week sitting on your ass reading. Taking out the bins is a highlight for me.

    I should probably cycle more...

There are VMSs saying they should use Aston quay. Cars coming from Pearse st can access it by using Tara st and the quays.

Coming from the Northside, you go down D'olier St and turn around and go back up Westmoreland St.

From the Southside, it looks like you are being encouraged to use the car park off Trinity St.

I found it quiet too, but also not sure if it was just a fluke. I saw a Garda get irritated with moped driver who didn't seem aware of the fact that he's not allowed to use bus lanes!

That's only if you somehow manage to use O'Connell St southbound which is more or less verboten (banned left turn from Dorset St onto North Frederick St). Most people will use Gardiner St and Memorial Bridge.

Depends on where you're coming from, but it's only College Green that's closed, D'Olier St and Westmoreland street are open. So you go down D'Olier St, go right and across westmoreland street.

Ah but they get it away with it so often it's almost accepted at this stage :)

Most gardai have no problem with it. Not that's it's correct of course

So if you come from the southside from the Patrick St direction you'd have to go half way around the world to park there

Yep. Or you could take a right onto Kevin St and Park in Brown Thomas or RCSI, which would be far easier.
