The BMI a pretty pointless system that would have many professional athletes as dangerously overweight.

The Army likes to make sure we have a good appearance, so they check us every now and then on a height/weight table. If we are heavier than the table says we probably should be for the height, they pull out the tape measure and try to work out the percentage of body fat. Varies with age, but on average the limit for men is about 21-22%

I've never been told to be taped. At 6'5 and generally just under 200lbs, I've passed the height/weight test even with a brick under each foot. Still, one day for the crack of it, I had them tape me. Worked out as about 9.1%

In a country where obesity is becoming a serious health problem, and you don't need to read these statistics, it is very visible on the streets. I was in Killarney recently and there was an open air gig in Fitzgerald Stadium and while driving past those going to the concert, I was amazed at the amount of young obese girls, who quite clearly, have desperate diets and their clothes sense only add to the problem!!!

My BMI is down to 23....I lost a stone, walk 2 hours 5 days a week and TRY and keep away from the sweet stuff. At 53 I have reduced from a size 14 to a size 12......exercise and watching what we eat is the key at keeping BMI to an acceptable level.

BMI is the most retarded system on the planet. Skinny girls with no muscle tone (I call them skinny fatsos) would be very low while someone, like myself, who played rubgy all their youth and has a lot of muscle mass, would be in the high 20s.

on a BMI most professional athletes would be classed as over weight.

Lets all work it out from the two existing threads.
That way it kinda feels like we've accomplished something.
