I've not been around on the boards recently because of work and hols, but I just wanted to share this one.......

Saturday morning got up early and set off for a spin with a view to banging out a decent distance and coming back to watch the TdF - no real idea where I'd go or for how long so I just set off westwards - figuring the wind would be at my back for the return leg.

Anyway, I'm not boasting, just sharing 'cos I'm quite chuffed with myself - did my first "Imperial" century (and a bit) - 168km at an average speed of 28km/h - considering I've not even done that much in the last 3 weeks combined I was quite happy with myself.

Made it back to watch the final hour of the stage with a pile of tuna sangers and a few beers!!

Feels brilliant - especially when I got back and felt tired, but still thought there was a bit left in the legs!!

I went out through Bellewstown - Donore - Tullyallen - Slane - Kells - Oldcastle and back by pretty much the same route.

The hardest part was the climb back over Bellewstown having done about 140km at that stage - never mind the Giant of Provence - this was my own personal Giant of East Meath!

Yep - thought I was going to leave a lung or two there - it's a great test. That was only the 3rd time I got up there from that side without stopping.
