hi i know kildare are serious underdogs but something inside is telling me the lads could pull it out of the bag here!

    any thoughts?

if you are gonna pull tyrone then quarter final is when you want them as i feel if they progress they will be unbeatable!

maybe kildare can cause a serious upset!

I think that pulling Tyrone was a good thing for Kildare. It'll make them work harder than they have been and hopefully will lead to a win.

Go Kildare. I hope ye do it, but it will take a mammoth effort to take the Tyrone lads. They are the best team in the history of the gaa the way they are playing at the moment.

i agree lads that tyrone team are awesome!

but david and goliath is a fantastic story i think ;)

Don't believe theres that much in it. True Tyrone always find a way but i can't see them coasting past this Kildare side. They'll be worthy favourites no question of it but if i was a Tyroneman i'd be cursing the draw. Kildare were always to be feared by the provincial champions and i can see them winning by a score.

i really think that kildare deserve to win it this year. they've really improved as a team and have worked hard to do so. the match leinster final against dublin, in my opinion, was a brilliant match for kildare. they played really well, and it was really only the last few minutes that let them down. with players like gary white, i really think they can pull it off this year :)

lol hyperbole still alive and kicking, they're not even the best team in gaa at present never mind in the history of the association

My heart sank when we drew Tyrone, they are an awesome outfit but it boils down to who performs on the day.

Tyrone keeper John Devine is out after dislocating his shoulder.

Would love to see Kildare do it. I hope they play better than Saturdays game though. They played well at times through out it but seemed to lose it too. Not complaining we won in the end. But Tyrone wont let them away with so much. Think they will put it up the Tyrone though. Come on Kildare

I think Kildare can put it up to Tyrone and this year reminds me a little of 2007 when Meath beat Tyrone, Kerry will flush the jacks and march forward with our new found form and I am banking on a Kerry-Mayo All-Ireland.

Tyrone are far from the best team in History and are not even the best team this decade, looking through those rose tinted glasses of yours you may look to the history books at a Kerry team who won 8 All-Irelands in 11 years between 1975-1986 with a four and a three in a row along the way.

This year will settle the team of the decade one.

Kildare will give it a right go, they need to start well and an early goal would do wonders. I can see Kildare running up 14/15 points at least, they'll need 1-14/15 to win.

Antrim were a bigger threat to Tyrone, and Tyrone polished them of in second gear..I saw the match on Saturday and at times Kildare couldn't even hold the ball! McGeeney knows the Tyrone team inside out, but Mickey Harte is smarter than that, so God knows what Tyrone will throw at them on the day. Croke Park is like a second home to Tyrone, they thrive there..so it's gotta be Tyrone for me..

Tyrone to squeek through by no more than 3 points.Tyrone haven't been tested a whole lot this championship so far apart from Armagh. They walked through Derry and Antrim with such ease that a defeat similar to 2007 against Meath is not behind the realms of possibility.

If Kildare do win, they need everything to go right for them. They need to win breaking ball in midfield, push the Tyrone forwards into impossible spaces in Croke Park and take point or goal opportunity available to them.

I think Kildare would lose this match in the defense.Their full back line is the weak link and have pretty much conceded an average of 2 goals per game.Tyrone to expose this frailty.

    My prediction

    Tyrone 3-12
    Kildare 0-16

Kildare have a little bit more momentum than Tyrone having only played last week. They also have a game played in croker already this season, unlike Tyrone.

However, Mikey Conway, an excellent attacking wing back is out with a poxy knee ligament injury. He is a huge loss to Kildare, both in defence and attacking options. Also the full back line looks a little shakey and may be lacking in confidence on the day.

If Kildare are to win, they'll need a performance similar to Limericks against Cork. If they don't let Tyrone settle they can beat them. Johnny Doyle will have to be on fire with his free kicks, Early will have to take control of midfield and the defence will have to stop leaking easy goals.

I fear though that Kildare will be their own biggest enemy, and lose the match physcologically before it even begins. They could push the self destruct button like they did early on in the 2nd half against Wicklow, and in the last 10 minutes against Dublin. When this happens they tend to overly hand pass themselves into trouble, drop easy balls, and kick aimless passes into the oppositions hands.

Dont be surprised if Kildare win! This team on top form is a match for any team in the country.

If Kildare manage to not concede any goals they will win!

Kildare forwards are very sharp and can score some super points under a lot of pressure. I reckon that Kildare will score more points that Tyrone on Sunday - but if Tyr run hard at the full back line like Wicklow did and pop a goal or 2 in - then it will be all over.

    Prediction (a hopeful one!)
    Kildare 0-16
    Tyrone 0-14

Anyone know what colours the 2 teams will be wearing on Sunday? Kildare in green or Tyrone in Red or both (like the league meeting 2 years ago!)

Also - any truth in the rumour that the hill will be closed on Sunday?

Kildare have nothing to lose, and Tyrone have been in cruise control. It will either be the biggest shocker of the summer, or a damp squib with Tyrone polishing them off early. Im hopeful for the former !

eh..Tyrone played to a full Croke Park against Dublin at the start of this year to celebrate 125 years of the GAA ..and won...Tyrone to win btw...

Don't think this Tyrone team will be caught out like before, 06 & 07 especially. Greatness awaits this team if they win the AI this year. They have few injuries, though it looks like McGinley and Devine is out. They've decent replacements in Cavanagh and McConnell ;)

It does weaken the team though as Cavanagh doesn't get quite the same room to roam and the McGinley Early tussle would have been good.

Can the answer be kerry, or seeing as they have failed to beat tyrone in any championship game this decade, is it another side??

really looking forward to it.its all anyone is talking about in kildare at the minute.if we can get a good start and rattle them a bit who knows waht could happen.my head says tyrone will just be too strong and pull away in the last quarter but my heart is screaming we can do it!

We're not quiet the team of '98, but get a few goals against Tyrone and keep the ball out of our net and I'll be pleasently suprised. Gonna throw a score on Kildare tomorrow. Although Conway is out of the game now.....Lepper to the half back line.......things might work out?

i would like nothing better than to see kildare beat tyrone unfortunately cant see it. kildare could not manage goals against dublin so cant see it against tyrone and 16 points will not be enough because tyrone will get goals barring a miracle tyrone 3.12 kildare 0.16

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 580 ✭✭✭pipelaser

I think it will be a close game with Tyrone edging it, but if its close you never know what will happen, a lucky goal towards the end like against Meath in '98.
The teams play similar football, these games tend to be scrappy but even.

i think, if everyone does a bit of soul searching, that Kildare dont really have much a of a hope. Tyrone havent even started playing yet this year.

Would this not add to the case for a Kildare win? Teams cant just decide when to 'start playing'', its not like a light switch. But apart from all this I think Tyrone will win comfortably enough, the Kildare full-back line is shocking considering who they're manager is, I mean Wicklow carved them open FFS and should have scored four or five goals against them and in the Leinster Final they conceded a massve score considering the opposition had 14 players and couldnt hit a barn door against Meath.

i know we are not the team of 98 but the game has changed same as the kildare set up!

look at the team strength, finishing from all forwards, a great midfield all we need to do is stop conceding goals and we will have a great chance!

why the negativity? you will have us beaten before friday at this rate!

14 men makes feck all difference at this level!

dublin also had the hill and most of the park on their side and kildare felt the pressure!

derby games are always close especially dub v meath!

kildare have momentum and age and fitness all on their side so **** the begrudgers CILL DARA ABU

Ray, I actually think we have the beating of them. The only bad thing I can say about Kildare is the amount of goals they leak. They can score alright, but it's goals we need in this game.

ah i see your from dublin i presume, so do you count yourselves as serious contenders?

kildare dublin game could have gone either way so forget that theory of yours!

were wicklow not a stern test?

the kildare tyrone game could go either way same as kildare dublin its championship football after all!!

Not from Dublin. But I do count them serious contenders, and hence the only serious contenders Kildare have faced so far. If you think Wicklow was a stern test, just wait for Tyrone.

Kildare have a lovely style of football and on that basis alone I'd like to see them win. I don't have much time for 'Ulster style' football.

Having said that I think Kildare do have an outside chance of winning.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,929 ✭✭✭raven136

What do Kildare have to fear from this game?.They have been close in every game this season including league, have come on leaps and bounds and have found a free scoring style and forwards, amassed a total of 79 points in 4 games so far.
Wicklow was a stern test with a team on a roll and will stand to us.Tyrone man for man are a better team but you never know what could happen after a quick start.
Conway will be a big loss though.Picking tyrone by no more than 2 points and hoping for a great game

Far too much hand passing to me, very similar to Donegal. McGeeney seems to have changes that.

Kildares only hope is to catch Tyrone on the hop like Donegal and Mayo did in 04 and Laois in 06. Down was different last year.

Tyrone don't need the qualifiers like they did last year. They've a settled team and they all know what they are at. If Kildare get an early lead they'll send McMenamin to the FF line to score a couple.

Out of interest, does anyone know what colour jerseys the teams will be wearin on Sunday? I know Kildare has another green jersey and I think Tyrone has a red one. But who gets priority?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,142 ✭✭✭Whyno

Sure Kildare beat Wicklow!!! Wicklow is almost an Ulster team after dumping 3northern teams outta this years championship :D

To be honest i think Kildare have a lot of improving to to and i expect Tyrone to neutralise Dermot Earlys dominance of mifield and thus take the game away from kildare and expect another comfortable victory for them. This will be a good gauge for the kildare team on how much they need to improve if they are to challenge for Sam as i felt against the dubs the lacked any belief that the could win.
