    Hey Guys,

Going running the Streets of Galway 8Km this year but the route map appears to be broken on the site..

Could some describe or google map the route?

I'd love to be able to run the route once or twice in the next two weeks

    Thanks in advance

    Dan

Try this- I think this was added to mapmyrun last year but i'm pretty sure the route is the same.

Thanks, Monroes was on the corner of my road, I lived about 4 doors up, my old house is a Chinese take-a-away or something now :(.

This is a great race, 2500 entries in and closed entry, a full house !!, always gets a strong field, and very fast course , wind permitting on the prom!! Definite pb territory, as long as you get away at the start...

is it not the case that with usual west/south west prevailing winds it is more than likley that the wind would be a help rather than a hinder on the prom.
i know from last year the wind was at our backs on the prom home.
    anybody other experience?

Yes your right thats how the wind usually is,was close to perfect last year, but theres always a few exceptions..! A couple of difficult to negotiate at speed turns are possible hazards, top of Eyre square, kerbs at courthouse , and the fnish straight!, are ones to watch, other than that just hope the rain holds off..

with all the rain we've had..........we must be due a good eve for the streets.

    I don't think I'll have that problem :o

Question- is the road closed for all of it or will we be running on pavements from any point?

This year's route is a little different:

    http://www.galwaycityharriers.com/files/gch/images/streets_map.jpg

There's a nice little detour up through Devon Park/Gardens at half way, it's a steep enough section for 100m.

I think that is an error on the route map. I was just chatting with one of the race committee and it's the same route as last year and not the route as indicated on the website. it should be a left turn at Devon Park, not the loop up around them.

GCH is having a club run on the course tonight.
I know there's a few others who post on here from the club, but not sure how frequently.
I'll confirm the running swimming route tomorrow.

Maybe it'll have to be renamed to The Canals of Galway 8k. ;)

Got an email to my gmail on it last week, but cant access it from work. Pretty sure its tonight.
Its at 7pm as far as I remember, in place of the usual Tuesday Fit-For-Life session, so there'll be all levels.
Presume its at the start line, I'm sure you'll see the group gathered somewhere between there and the finish line.

Hopefully the rain will have cleared up by then.

    Just to confirm the route...

The current map on the GCH site is wrong - its an old route apparently.
The 2009 route will be the same as last year, so the mapmyrun link provided earlier in the thread is the correct route.

On a downer - felt my ITB in the right knee last night after about 6k of the run. Had to hobble slowly back to the finish. :(
Gonna have to work on stretches for it between now & the race - I just hope I'm able to run.

The website was showing the other (with devon gardens loop) last night but has changed back to the other one this morning.
I'll assume the one which is up now is the correct one. It's also linked from their facebook page.

    Everyone get their confirmation email?

Sorry to hear about the ITB SpursC... hope you recover in time.

Just got confirmation from a club member who helps maintain the website that the image has been fixed up.

So no more confusion, all is well, same route as last year. :D
