Got a email from eircom, found it quite funny

    As you are aware, eircom customers experienced disruption to their Internet service over the last two weeks. On behalf of eircom, I apologise for the interruption to service and would like to take this opportunity to update you on the current position.
    In early July we saw an increase in incidents known as ‘cache poisoning’. This is a malicious activity by a third party to redirect customers to fake websites. We took immediate steps to protect our customers from this activity. This involved strengthening of the filters that block unwanted or suspect traffic. Unfortunately many customers could not, as a result of the incidents, access the internet or experienced delays for a number of hours on two specific occasions.
    While our preliminary investigations have shown that, in general, our systems worked as intended when the attack occurred, we are taking additional steps to further protect our customers and their internet service. This involves upgrading and replacing some of our server equipment. Service has been fully operational since 14th July and we continue to monitor the situation closely. We want to reassure customers that eircom treats the issue of Internet security very seriously and will continue to take all necessary steps to ensure that an incident such as this does not reoccur.
    We sincerely thank you again for your patience over the past two weeks as the measures outlined above were put into place, and apologise again for service interruption. We know that our customers have made eircom Ireland’s largest ISP because of its reputation for reliability and its ability to resolve issues when they arise.     the higlighted bits made me laugh the most, "reputation for reliability and its ability to resolve issues when they arise"

    yeah that explanes why people have to keep contacting them over and over again and never seem to be able get straight answers from them, or their problems fixed.

    how can they send out such bull****?

    All is ok now, they've patched their dns servers, till next time

    Of course they were so worried about security it completely slipped their minds to patch their dns server for a vulnerability discovered in June 2008. :eek:

    Theyve only fixed a MAJOR issue that was in the news and giving them bad publicity. They dont actually care about their customers or the performance of their product as long as they get the monthly payments in and they can put a pretty face on it.

    if there was a half decent ISP in drogheda id of dumped them 3 months after i got eircom installed as thats when it started acting up!!

    ive had

    Irish Broadband
    Digiweb
    3 Broadband (yes i know its not broadband)
    and now eircom

    and had troubles with them all

    others in the area are the likes of perlico, ice broadband, clearwire and theres no point trying them as they are worse then eircom!

    so if ya can find me a decent ISP in drogheda id switch tomorrow

    I have been with Eircom for many years and have never received any communication from them in all that time.

    So I did not get any 'warnings' about router setup or any apologies about failing connections etc.

    So, I wonder .... are those who received such emails etc those who complained or are all customers supposed to have received communications on those subject?

    Thanks for any insight.

    That email was a joke and not even sent only to paid up eircom users. I recieved 8 EIGHT copies to different email addresses and even got one sent a HOTMAIL account, interesting they all got tagged as spam :rolleyes:

    It would have been better if Eircom had not sent those emails; I'd check the provinace of the next one from Eircom on the bases that some scammer will jump on the band wagon and target Eircom customers with another applogy letter but this time asking the customer to confirm their Eircom email address and email password :eek:

    i also got one of those emails and they are just meaningless rubbish spouted by some penpusher to try to stop people claiming refunds for the outages! when i rang to complain i was informed that nobody would be getting any kind of redress for the outages.

    they are also still denying the serious nature of the attacks and are trying to cover up any idea that it might/WILL happen again!

    But don't eircom use djbdns, so the kaminsky vulnerability doesn't apply there?
