Post-electric picnic gig in Vicar St. Unfortunatley I wasn't one of the lucky ones to get a ticket. Hopefully ticketmaster has a few unreleased ones hiding away somewhere.

    So who's going?
    Should be a great gig!

seems unlikely for a Vicar St gig. I got tickets logging on at 9am the day they went on sale, checked about 20 mins later and there were still some available but they were gone by 9.30 - really looking forward to it, love the album.

Yeah, I very much doubt it aswell. I'll keep an eye out anyway. I'm afraid toutless will be useless for this one too, so far over 20 or 30 requests requesting between 1 and 5 tickets and not one person offering.

I still think a lot of people with tickets may decide to head to the picnic in the end and sell on their Fleet Foxes tickets. Also Vicar St on occasion have a few tickets on the night in their box office but you'd want to arrive around 6 to 6.30 to have a chance.

I'd just like to say that it was an honour and a privilege to be at the fleet foxes gig in vicar st tonight. I don't think i have ever been in awe of an artist to that extent before.

Seeing them at the picnic was great but a venue like vicar st was made for them, great banter with the crowd too. That gig will live long in the memory.

Anyone else fortunate enough to make it down?

    .

just in the door (leitrim) from the gig.

it was an absolute pleasure to be there tonight, has to be one of the finest performances i ever witnessed and thats saying something for my advanced years!

    pure joy:)

they were really excellent. I particularly liked the solo spot where he played unamplified at the edge of the stage - its some set of lungs he has to be able to fill a space like Vicar St with just his voice and an acoustic guitar.

Yeah would have to agree everything that's been said. It did feel somewhat of an an honour at times to be in the presence of such talent. The song he did away from the mic, was Katie Cruel I think, great song.:)

When he start singing Subterranean Homesick Blues I was in complete disbelief, it would have been unquestionably the coolest thing I've ever witnessed had he pulled it off

Even at that what he managed was more than a little impressive

Yeah be honest I think it was even cooler that he just gave it a go and when it didn't happen he just laughed his head off, apologised and went into something else. None of the prima donna everything has to be perfect or throw a big strop you might see with other artists. And as you say, the bit he did get through was great.:)

I saw them at the picnic as well & they were great but this was a whole different experience.

The small venue and a Fleet Foxes audience made it possibly the best live performance I've seen, definitely up there with Neil Young a couple of months back, probably even better.

Anyone remember the name of the cover they did as a band, he mentioned Airplane something

yeah i agree... you can't beat seeing a band at their own gig in a venue such as vicar st or olympia etc.

    Jefferson airplane?

Neutral Milk Hotel - "Two-headed boy" off their album "In the aeroplane, over the sea"

Great, great gig. They're a better live band than on record and that's saying something. The vocals were absolutely flawless and some of the banter with the crowd was hilarious. I thought they'd be a heads-down-play-the-songs kind of band but when they came out they just chatted for 2 or 3 minutes until Robin eventually said "oh yeah, music!" and started playing. :D

Couple of questions...what was the song Robin played without the mic? And what was the song the band came on stage to...sounded like Animal Collective?

    Katie Cruel

Cant remember what they came on stage to.
Was it something they played or just on in the background?

The song away from the mic was Katie Cruel wasn't it? A cover of the song by Karen Dalton, which was on the mojo Nick Cave influences cd from a couple of months back, great song. Just googled it there and it would appear to be a regular Fleet Foxes cover.

Cheers! Got goosebumps just watching that. Did you record it yourself?

There was music playing in the background as they came on. I think it was Animal Collective but I didn't recognise the song, so just wondering if anyone knew.

great footage - I didn't know the song, but it's lyrically very similar to Nick Cave's "When I first came to town" - I assume Cave's song is ripped off from influenced by the trad tune.

No I cant claim the credit for the video but there's some really good quality ones up on the tube, well worth a look.

Couldnt tell you about the animal collective thing, sorry

How did ye guys hear about his gig when tickets came out? Are ye on Vicar street mailing list, was it Fleet Foxes site or was it well advertised and I missed it? I only heard about it at the weekend:(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,881 ✭✭✭dceire

I stumbled across it on ticketmaster but had missed the boat at that stage. I managed to pick up a pair in the end but for €45 a pop, although i did see single tickets going on ebay for over €100

It was well worth the €45 though, especially when you see coldplay and other such crap selling tickets at exorbitant prices.
