they will be dissapointed tonight I'd say, they had enough ball and chances to win it today.

i agree but tbh i couldnt see them beating kildare today maybe a few years but kildare seemed to have a couple of gears to spare! but wicklow looked great in front of the posts

Eh, they beat us last year.

And, just before Smiths goal, Wicklow had enough scoreable opportunities to level the match. Had they taken these, they would have had the momentum.

We were roasted in the full back line for the second game in a row. A serious problem in that area.

FFS i know they beat us last year i mean their day will come! even though we were roasted in the backs kildare still looked much better!

do agree though backs will have to do better:(

Disagree here. Kildare looked good thanks to a few really silly decisions from Marty Duffy. Like the Donegal Galway match the referee seemed very hard on Wicklow and let their forward get dragged a lot. Dermot Early overcarried the ball when it should have been a free in but Kildare go up the pitch and get the clinching score.

Me think the G.A.A need the cash injection from the racehorse owners on the Curragh

    Please explain?

Felt thar a few vital decisions went against Wicklow at vital times one of which was aled to Kildare sealing the game. The comment was slightly tongue in cheek. Look into it however you want.
Kildare staying in the championship = big cash injection for G.A.A.

I am very cyncle. But that is how it looked to me.

Sorry but that just seems like a very stupid point!

Well done to the lads, they did the county proud this summer. We had the chances to win yesterday but Kildare were probably the better team. Im already looking forward to next year :D

hard luck on Micklow indeed but they had run out of steam by the end.

where as kildare made scoring easy, micklow had to work hard for theirs and had nobody to kick a long range point.

great game tho; much better than the one before it on telly!

    Was at it.

The ref was a bloody disgrace, especially in midield.

We should have taken our points instead of going for goals.

Kildare took their scores very well though, more direct.

Wicklow have a lot to look fvorward to, and thanks for an amazing month!

I thought the ref was bad and made a lot of decisions Kildare's way.
missed a clear pickup by a Kildare half forward on the 65
booked Jacko Dalton because a Kildare man shouldered him off the ball
Gave Kildare a 21 yard free for some off the ball incident, yet when he came up to book a kildare man for a foul off the ball in the second half, left Kildare take the kickout when it should have been a Wicklow free out
Blew up several times for steps when Wicklow men were being tackled ferociously and left Early take about 9 steps when there was noone near him
Gave a free for a hard side challenge by a wicklow defender to a Kildare man who was in the air. the rule states as long as the tackler has at least 1 foot on the ground and it's side to side it doesn't matter how hard the challenge is. The ref then moved the ball on when asked what the free was for.
Then he blew up Stafford for pushing in the back about 7 times when the Kildare backs were at it all day to our forwards.
Kildare players were in retaliating pushing Wicklow players after the whistle on 3 occassions and neither time did the ref do anything about it.

At the end of the day though, we wasted too many chances and gave Kildare too much soft possession. The last 7 mins of the first half were desperately wasteful, after dominating the game for about ten minutes before that.
All season though the boys gave it their all and played like a team much more than any other Wicklow team I ever watched. And the team is used to playing til July after the last 2 Tommy Murphy seasons, hopefully we can kick on to be playin in August or later next year. We probably need one better forward and one better back playing next year or at least use a few subs- we had 13 vs 20 again Fermanagh, You literally have to break a bone to get taken off by Micko - look at how good Hayden was - only got on for Dalton.

On the subject of Referees, I though the man in the Fermanagh match was very inconsistent while the ref against Westmeath was poor too. If the players are going to go out every weekend after bursting a gut training all year, some level of consistency in refereeing is needed.

Sad ridicilous post. I assume you are a Dub so I'll answer your post by saying that Dub got two debatable frees from Pat McEnaney in the last few minutes of the Leinster final. However I'm willing to accept that the Dubs were the better team and move on.

You obviously have some other agenda other than a neutral view. The ref didn't lose that game for Wicklow, unfortunately for them they lost it themselves by kicking some very bad wides.

yeah fair play to wicklow, im a kildare man and was also at the game.yee gave us a big fright and i was just relieved we got through it.in fairness the ref had a terrible game, bad decisions against both teams, only reason we're not complaining is because we won.

Your entitled to your view. I did say it was tongue in cheek
I am just a bit suspicious of what some referees do and I thought the man in question robbed Wicklow. He penalised them at every turn while it appeared Kildare got away with a lot of pushing and petty fouling. I could be wrong will look at it later but at a vital stage Early took about 8steps with the ball and Wicklow players were calling for a free he just ignored them. On the other hand with all Early has been through he is entitled to a little bit of luck.

By the way I think Kildare would beat them 9 out 10 times but I am sick of the role referees are playing.

I agree and disagree. 2/3rds of the full back line were destroyed. Again Cirain Hyland played well. I'm saying this now: If Ciaran Hyland does not win Wicklow Footballer of the year this year its a disgrace. He's been a consistent performer over the last few years but it always seems to go to a "glamorous" player. OK last year its hard to argue against Leighton when he played for Ireland, but if Hyland doesn't win it this year there's no justice.

Also, surely Mervin & Ciaran deserve nominations for All Star's, maybe not win the but certainly nominations. Mervin made some great saves in the qualifiers and only conceded 3 goals in 6 matches with a dodgy full back line in front of him. Ciaran kept Seany Johnson, Benny Coolter & Johnny Doyle quite.

I'd like to point out that I'm from Rathnew so its not like i'm involved with AGB and biased.

    Regards
    Ian

Speaking as a Wicklow supporter I would have to say that I am very proud of the way the team played. I stand with my head held high.
Micko and his team (Especially Jim Whittle...ole pal) have done a great job and I have no doubt that they will continue to do so and Wicklow will improve next year.

As a referee in a neighbouring county I would have to say that it is very easy to be critical of a referee. Any referee can only see what he see's. He cannot see through people. His (or her's) decision is based on what he sees at any one particular moment in time and he has to make his decision quickly. He is going to be 50% wrong all the time anyway.
What I will say is this...referees should be consistent...and unfortunately Martyn was NOT consistent on the day. Even at club level at junior and senior level referees need to be consistent and fair and this is NOT happening. County boards needs to give yearly assessments on refs. This is supposed to be happening but is not.

Anyway...come on Wicklow for next year.

Gish, I don't want to rag on refs too much but I though there were several decisions he made where he saw something clearly different to reality. Like where he booked Jacko Dalton who was standing still and a kildare man ran into him and hit him in the chest with his shoulder.

Also one of the linesman was poor - failed to flag a pickup and some other after the whistle stuff.

But all in all a great year for Wicklow.

DonkeyPoker, Hyland kept Glennon of Westmeath fairly quiet too only 2 points from play in normal time.
Travers made a few vital stops on Saturday but had one poor kickout that led to a point against Kildare and also against Down. but he was fairly good for all other kickouts all season.

i'm also from wicklow and proud of the team and disapointted with the ref but your wrong about the linesman.the linesman cannot flag a technical foul.he is there to observe the side line and if he wishes he can advise the ref during a stop in play but he has no power to stop play because of a foul

2 Crucial decisions lead to Wicklow scoring goals.. 2 wrong decisions in my opinion.
Leighton Glynn Threw the ball to Hannon for second goal, and for the first goal the referee gave a free to Wicklow for nothing.
I have the game on DVD and have watched it twice, so i'm sure on these 2 decisions.
Referee will get decisions wrong, there Human.
those 2 goals, had the game been tighter at the time they were scored could have been disasterous for Kildare.
Jacko Dalton didnt stand there, he met Johnny doyle with a shoulder in the chest and this kind of stuff happens all the time after a free kick taker misses a free kick in an attempt to unsettle him further and needs to be stamped out.

and of course you'd have the same attitude about the ref if kildare had of lost.
