I have a 1.7 and would definitely recommend it. Bit pricey for what it is though, and you will probably need to swap the seat for something less "solid".

The 1.7 has a better (lighter) frame and better components... Difficult to say if it is worth €500 to you. You would do the SK 100 on the 1.2 no problem. If racing I might say the 1.7...

Treks are good bikes but overpriced, if I was looking around the Irish RRP for the 1.7 I would be getting a good carbon bike instead (something like the Boardman Carbon, or a Planet X or Focus etc.)

thanks for the reply ,i was down in the bike shop looking about huge difference in weight also in price.

im looking at a 58or60 cm bike would it be better with a top end alloy or a cheaper carbon bike .

Entry level carbon is better than the likes of the Trek alloy. There are still "top-end" aluminium bikes but they are somewhat specialist these days and the Trek 1-series would probably not really be there. To be honest at the same price point you would only really be looking at aluminium if you wanted the bike purely for racing (IMHO.)
