    Hi Folks,

I just joined boards.ie so take it easy with me as i get myself to grips with this amazing web site.

However, I am thinking of getting a Satellite system installedwithin the next few weeks. My only problem with this is that it's advertised as "Free To Air"! How long will it last does anybody know? No point in getting it installed if the "Free To Air" is going to go within 12 months!

Any advise on this would be of great help

    Regards

Channels like BBC, ITV, Channel 4 etc are all going to remain FTA for the forseeable future. Infact most of what is currently FTA will remain so.

    Welcome to boards. :D
The number of FTA channels has increased steadily and is likely to continue to grow.
The BBC is committed to free-to air transmission and any form of encryption would be contrary to their charter.
Some smaller channels will always come and go, at the moment there are around 90 real channels available.
As FTA is so cheap now there is no point in delaying your purchase.
    Do it now !

The satellite system I am getting installed is for multi room viewing, ie 2 standard FTA boxes. Can I at a later date, when prices come down, change one of these boxes for a HD box? This would be for the main room in the house where I have a HD Ready TV
