Do you have to ring up Sky to receive ESPN for the new Premiership season?

Has anyone succeeded in registering online from Ireland? When I try to submit the form, it fails on the postcode.

    Hi,

Finally got some info from Sky on ESPN upgrade,

Sky Sports subscribers @ €12 pm (UK £9)
    Non Sky Sports/ Standalone @ €18 pm (UK £12)

but they're not 100% on the non sub yet

shafted on euro conversion again

Sky customer services are taking upgrades from today for 3rd August startup and first billing month end Aug 09

How many Premier League games will ESPN be showing & will they have a HD channel?

Appalling conversion on the non sky sports sub alright, there living in 2007. Out of interest, is it sky themselves deciding these rates or is it ESPN?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 742 ✭✭✭channelsurfer

yes its sky..... I email Lyn Franks the ESPN MD and noted that they should use the correct conversion rate. She replied that SKY and UPC will set the rate "at what the market will determine".... ie if sky want to screw you they will......

Whilst the €12 is high I wonder does having just Skysports 1 entitle you to that price? If that was the case SS1 , 1 Mix plus ESPN would be €54 a month. If u could scrounge some half price deals off Setanta u could get nearly all PL games for around €62

Thats a very good question, my guess is they will shaft you any way they can - so you'll have to sub for the whole Sky Sports pack to get the reduced sub for ESPN.

    Love Sky's conversion technique btw:rolleyes:

Will ESPN just show up on your Channels list when you order it or what?

Is it a different ESPN to ESPN America(Sky Channel 417) yeah?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 28,128 ✭✭✭✭Mossy Monk

ESPN America will no longer exist from next Monday. ESPN will take its place.

Monday 4th or Monday 11th of August?

    That is incorrect...

    This is there line up:

    ESPN
    ESPN HD
    ESPN america..

ESPN is a brand new channel based on european sports..

And before anyone says it the press release was worded wrong..

Every single press report has been wrong then. You are the only person to claim otherwise. We shall see on Monday. I hope you are correct though.

    rang sky last night

was told they couldn't upgrade me and they have no prices yet for ROI...

said she was reading from a sky info release from tuesday

has anyone actually managed to get upgraded with a price.....???

I had been planning to ring in the morning. Strange they buy the Irish rights to events and don't let you subscribe.

all their press releases say "how delighted we are to be bringing this service to the UK and Ireland...."

    Blah-blah-blah

has anyone in ireland managed to actually upgrade their Sky package to include the new ESPN channel which launches in 3 days time....

yet again Sky (as opposed to ESPN perhaps) have proved that despite the substantial numbers of Irish viewers they have they don't really give a monkeys...

    see here also....http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055636794

this gives us the schedule - which is still a work-in-progress item...

however use the link from that page to upgrade

    https://espn.sky.com/?DCMP=ILC-SkyCOM_ESPN

    voila...

straight to the uk-only option of upgrading online complete with the promise of a £5 discount if you do just that...

ROI option - don't bother looking - it does not exist

    rang Sky again last night....

"unfortunately we cannot upgrade you or advise a price at this time..."

    3 days to launch.....

    it is worth repeating

Sky take your money but shaft you in their pricing and general attitude towards Irish viewers....

    Interesting
Freesat customers register your details for ESPN as a standalone channel.

No need for a Sky subscription then by the looks of it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 300 ✭✭pricewise987

I think only Virgin's XL customers don't have to pay

    http://news.icm.ac.uk/business/virgin-espn-announce-collaboration/2968/

I can't see how a Freesat customer would get ESPN.....

Looks like your spot on about your channel line up according to the Faq's in this link. If u get ESPN, you will have ESPN America as a separate bonus channel. That makes a big difference in taking their package to me anyway.

Presumably the same way they could get Setanta. I am guessing they are on about Freesat from Sky.

I haven't seen this posted yet, so apologies if someone else has already said it, but the Sky Ireland site is now taking ESPN orders:

    https://ireland.sky.com/upgrade/

The order form was painless, but I won't know until I get home from work whether the upgrade went through.

What if you have a multiroom sub. Will entering one viewing card number on your account be sufficient to put it through on both boxes, or will we have to go the phone route?

I have multiroom and just put one viewing card number in. Hopefully it works on both.

Did ye see the terms and conditions about the prices?

Sky Sports customers can upgrade to ESPN for €12 extra per month. Customers who do not subscribe to Sky Sports will pay €16 extra per month.

Thought it might have been €10 :(

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 28,128 ✭✭✭✭Mossy Monk

No chance of it ever being €10 considering it is £9 in the UK with Sky Sports and everybody knows about the exchange rate used by some UK companies.

16 euros a month for one channel with sports I mostly dont watch (apart from the Golf and Prem) is a bit steep, I'd prefer if they were doing pay per view or something, thats way OTT for a couple of games. Does anyone have the list of games they will be showing.

    got it on prev page
