this individual first had a cheap root canal ( don't know how much it cost) followed by an expensive (1700euro) one to fix up the mess.

Alot of the time, the original attempt can't be fixed as the inside of the tooth has been destroyed beyond predictable repair & you get an even more expensive dental implant at 3000euro.

This guy is a shill for a dental clinic in Budapest, and a siteban has been requested. Needless to say, permanently banned from DI. We'll be watching for re-regs.

Unless of course you take Splanc's advice and go to the good clinic in Dublin and then on to Budapest, the implant won't be so expensive.:D

Georgieporgy, remember sarcasm does not transfer well on a forum, Reading the above would lead me to think you were supporting Splanc's that rotten spammer.

For the record, Splanc was banned for a month a month ago for spam, and he came back with a vengeance saying that he new a good clinic in dublin and to PM him for details. It turns out this is a front for a eastern europian outfit he is involved with. They sucker you into thinking your treatment will be fully guaranteed in Ireland and you will be seen in an irish clinic for all your followup and inevitable complications. This is not the case. This was not a true recommendation.

Is that the crowd who have the clinic in Bray and are opening in the city centre now??

Ah who knows, personally think people are doing a lot more research in these economic times, most people are wiser than to get irreversable health care during a holiday.

People seem to "shop around up north" a fair bit. I wonder if they tried more practises in the Republic, to get the best prices, how things might compare?

Really nice endos there. And that shot showing the 4 canals in the first molar kinda makes you squirm with delight doesn't it?

Very pretty. Nice work negotiating those curves on the last one. I find those can be a bugger to obturate. Are you using warm vertical? Continuous wave Buchanan style?

Medium tapered cones for most,ML for some greater taper canals, system B 200 degrees, occasionally higher, although ALL the radiographs shown were obturated using a conventional flame heated Mortenson plugger, with a Buchanan plugger to follow as I did not have a system B at that practice at that time.

God damn, what a waste of time.

The "pain train" (I like that by the way) runs on a circular track. It will return in a few years, I recon a NHS endo lasts about 4 years maybe less. Difficult to motivate people about quality in these times. :(

On another note, did you guys see the letter regarding the PRSI scheme and on board snip?

Yep. What a load of balls. The IDA is weak on this. Where are they on the radio/tv/other media spreading the word? Come on. What do I pay my dues for?

I feel the winds of change coming to the profession. It might not be such a bad thing. Shortly, we'll all be able to compete with the DermaDentals, the Seapoints, the City Dentals of this world on equal footing. Hopefully this happens before the government takes away the DTBS.

Give us a chance to compete, don't just tell us we have to even though it is against the rules!

All I've heard all week on the radio is how Belfast is cheaper dentistry than Dublin. EVERYTHING is cheaper in Belfast. Get over it. The Competition Authority can go and shie as far as I'm concerned. They don't know that we are being held back from competing because of professional rules. And they don't know how much it costs to run a practice.

I did see Eddie Cotter on the news the other day doing his best. He made the point that the quality of our work is why our prices are higher. How in the hell is Joe Public supposed to know that? Anyway our prices are higher because we pay close on 10x the amount in indemnity fees as they do in the North and because materials and vat are higher here as well as labour costs, equipment costs etc, etc. And we don't get subsidies from the government.

    Anyway, rant over.

On a ligher note, Res, Keith from Sybron is coming over to the practice to demonstrate the Elements system. Looks really great. Do you think its worth it? Obviously you're a fan of its predecessor, system b and are getting great results. Also, shortly going to Chelsea for a lecture on the new twisted files protocol. Those twisted files are the biz.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,535 ✭✭✭btkm8unsl0w5r4

Twisted files? Elabourate to this stupid denture monkey....;)

heard Eddie on the radio, thought he made his point very well. However if our strenght is our quality, we need to make patients appreciate what quality dental work is about and why its better for them in the long run. The current advertising that the public is bombarded with online and in the media is all about cost comparison, because we dont tell them about quality they dont care about it (and why would they.) We have allowed Dentistry become like buying a Ryanair ticket.

8 out of 10 people are entitled to a free dental check up with their riish family dentist twice a year. If the PRSI scheme goes, it will be a dark day for the irish smile.

they're new(ish) niti files from sybron that take advantage of the peculiar metllurgical properties of niti to reduce cyclic fatigue, increase resistance to separation and flexibility.

The new protocol is a single file protocol, that is using one Twisted File to enlarge the canal space instead of the 3-6 that other NiTi systems use. It's sweet.

I tend to go with what I know works, how much comeback you have in Belfast? What if the dentist is some kind of psychopath loyalist who wants you to suffer in the name of king Billy? Think I'll be going back to Colin Lynam in Balbriggan as I've gone to him before and wasn't butchered.

My mother got a root canal in Gdansk last march, forget the price but she said it was very good in comparison to here, she said the facilities were top class as well. Might be worth a look if you could get a cheap flight

Look at this post to see what the problem with poor quality root canals are. Price and value are not the same thing.

Lads I was enjoying this thread up to an hour ago, its gone to pot. Relax Keyboard Warriors!

    Ha. Nice.

I like to shop for bargains on clothes, music, food, travel. Not on things that are irreplaceable, such as teeth. Joke is on you, my friend.
